It is my pleasure to introduce Rosie van Custem as our new, inspirational Sophie Lis Girl. Rosie and her sister Lucia are the innovative team behind the incredibly successful British Brand Troy.
Whilst working in finance in London, the sisters noticed a big gap in the market for a flattering, fashionable outwear option built for the British countryside. Growing up in Oxfordshire, the sisters never lost their passion for the outdoors and would escape whenever possible to the countryside. They couldn't ignore the fact all their glamorous, well dressed friends wearing ill-fitting and unattractive coats to brave the elements so the duo decided to do something about it. It was then Troy was born.
Cleverly weaving together their business finesse, sense of style and knowledge of rural lifestyle, Rosie and Lucia created a unique business which is now well known for dressing some of the World’s most famous style icons. Responsibly manufacturing everything in the UK, Troy is a British brand through and through and we are grateful to share a little behind the scenes insight in the hope it will inspire you too.
Photographed at home in Norfolk and in Notting Hill, Rosie wears Sophie Lis jewellery and Troy clothing throughout the shoot. Pictured here in the Fallen Moon necklace, Cross necklace and Fallen Star hoops.
1.) Can you tell me about the pathway that led you to creating your amazing brand Troy – how was the brand born?
My sister and I created the brand as we couldn't find coats that we liked that also worked in the elements. We wanted to wear jackets versatile to our everyday lives that were genuinely waterproof and warm, and also brought some contemporary shapes and styles and luxury to make you feel special as you throw them on. We sketched out some first designs, launched a website and started the business on the side of full time jobs, so it was challenging but so exciting.
2.) Was it always clear to you that you would be an entrepreneur? Were there any indicators in your childhood that pointed to it?
I am not sure I would call myself a born entrepreneur, more that I was keen to sound out the business plan and see whether we had an idea that others would buy into, and fortunately we did! We didn't show much business flair in our childhoods... which were mostly spent messing around outside at our home in Oxfordshire, but I picked up some valuable lessons when co-founding an equestrian and social club when I first moved to London.
3.) Tell us about Troy, who you are and what you stand for.
We design luxury coats, suedes and knits with a distinctly British style. For him, for her, and now for children.
4.) Where or how do you get your inspiration for your collections?
We love looking into the archives for vintage pieces that stand the test of time, such as the classic Safari Style jacket or belted Norfolk Jacket. We modernise these styles by sourcing beautiful natural fabrics and trimming them with leather, brushed gold and quality buttons. All of our designs must endure the years and we also want to ensure the collection works for as many environments as possible - city, field or mountain to name a few!
5.) What was your first collection or piece of clothing you made? Do you still sell it now and how do you feel about it years later?
Our first style was a wool and leather trimmed jacket, styled on the side saddle habit. Looking back it was a stunning design but our lack of experience showed in the number of samples it took to get the fabric thickness correct and the shoulder pads in the right place... a true labour of love!
6.) What has been the most successful design for you and why do you think that is?
Our best seller and core design is a wax jacket with 100% waterproofing that is just a truly great shape- flattering and easy to wear over layers in the winter and over a shirt in the summer. A true all year round coat with easy, two way pockets, a hood and nipped waist. We launched the coat in many colours, some with a pop of colour at the zip, and it is a true winner.
7.) Is jewellery import to you? What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery
I love wearing small amounts of meaningful jewellery, and once it is on I tend to wear it for weeks. This is one of the reasons I love the Sophie Lis collection, it is subtle but very special, with glints of gold and diamond to compliment casual or smarter looks and I love the meaning Sophie puts into her cosmos inspired designs.
8.) We love that you make everything on British soil and your commitment to the environment and forever fashion. How do you think we can help educate the next generation away from fast fashion and commit to making better choices for the future?
I honestly think the next generation seem to be more aware than we ever were as to the downfalls of fast fashion. Thankfully David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg have spoken across the generations to raise awareness of the horrendous islands of waste polluting our seas and landfills. We are happy to be making small seasonal collections, and to ensure the quality of our designs ensures they stand the test of time, so our customers can buy less and enjoy their purchases for longer.
9.) What’s the next thing for Troy in 2023? What can we expect or get excited for?
We have many exciting plans, from a beautiful new summer collection launching in the Spring to an extension of our childrenswear collection, and maybe even something for the other loves of our lives... dogs!

She is also a volunteer stylist for Smartworks; an amazing female charity which helps underprivileged women across the UK get back into the workplace.
A truly remarkable woman and one of my personal inspirations, I take huge pleasure introducing you to wonderful Blue.

1.) Can you tell me a little bit about the pathway that lead you to the fashion world. How did you find yourself at Vogue?
After completing a degree in languages, I was keen to use them and so jumped at the chance when offered a job at Condé Nast Traveller. After a year my boss moved to Vogue magazine and I was lucky enough to move with her. My new boss Emma was an incredible influence on my career and really helped me carve my pathway at the magazine where I worked for eleven years.
2.) After working in the fashion world for such a long time, how did you decide what to do next?
After over a decade at Vogue, I had got married, had 2 children and had basically grown up there, I was hungry for a change. I took a very enjoyable twelve month contract at Wallpaper* magazine. Halfway through the contract Covid hit, which made planning my next step even trickier but, like my move into the fashion industry, my move into the art world wasn't hugely premeditated.
A timely introduction from a wonderful friend lead to a meeting with my new boss and CEO Marine Tanguy and her company MTArt. I remember feeling incredibly excited and impressed learning about the company and its future potential was something I wanted to be a part of.
3.) Tell us a little bit about MTArt and your role there.
MTArt is the art sector's first and leading talent agency for visual artists. We see the value in investing in 'the artist', not just the artwork. Our goal is to build artists' reputations across key areas; art collecting, brand collaborations, public art, digital audiences, institutional recognition and of course the NFT market. Also to use art as a tool to inspire, innovate and create impact.
My job is Director of Brand Partnerships, which involves coming up with and implementing cool, innovative and sustainable ways for brands we admire to collaborate with the artists we represent.
4.) What gives you the most satisfaction / sense of achievement / yaaasss moment?!
I love getting to know the Artists I am working with. In terms of that "yaassss" moment, I think anyone in a commercial, revenue-driving role, loves closing a deal. I definitely do.
I also love seeing a project come to life, especially one where not only the artist and brand are thrilled by the outcome, but one that actually has reach, impact and inspires a wider audience.
A nice dollop of press coverage to boot can be the cherry on the top.
5.) You have recently been back to lecture at the Condé Nast College of Fashion. Can you share your inspirational words of wisdom?
I love going back to Condé Nast, It's such a great place and I've really enjoyed the talks I've been invited to do there.
My best advice when you are starting out is that you need to graft. Go beyond what is expected of you, have a can-do, roll your sleeves up attitude and don't be afraid of hard work. As a Brit, networking and putting myself out there does not come easily to me but it pays dividends in the long run.
Finally... RESEARCH, do your homework! I remember interviewing what felt like thousands of candidates for a Creative Director role on my team at Vogue. I can't tell you how many of them when asked who their all time favourite Vogue photographer was, couldn't name a single one!! It would just blow my mind again and again... in a really bad way!
6.) Is there anything outside your career which has had a serious effect on your life.
I think the obvious answer here is starting a family but I think most of us have read enough of those answers. Losing one of my brothers Nicko last year definitely had a profound effect and has changed me as a person too but that's still quite recent.
Thinking in broader terms though, I think the fact I have bad hearing loss and had to get hearing aids in my mid 20s definitely had a serious effect on my life. Without wanting to get the violins out, it's a very annoying thing to live with, not to mention a massive pain for my husband Luke, Otto and Inca our kids, friends, family, workmates etc.
Having poor hearing is a bit like being in a foreign country and trying to learn a language. The concentration you need to follow a conversation is exhausting. Being an extrovert, I love meeting people and being in noisy, fun, social situations. Obviously when you're deaf, all of those things become slightly harder work.
Your confidence takes a hit and you feel a bit stupid quite a lot of the time, especially in work situations where I don't have my husband or close friends to lean on. I often miss funny jokes or punchlines which sucks! I did a Lip Reading course after work every Monday for two years which was a challenge but has been so useful.
7.) I was heartbroken to hear that you lost your brother to suicide last year following his battle with depression. I love that you decided to do a triathlon to raise money for MIND charity which supports others in his position, and that you kept up the rigorous exercise regime after. What impact has regular exercise had on your life?
Really sweet of you to mention Nicko. Thank you.
I basically love the energy and endorphin hit that comes with exercise. I'm in no way an athlete, but I've also felt small senses of achievement when I've pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and managed to do something I hadn't been able to do previously.
8.) Is jewellery important to you?
Yes, I love it. Back in the day I was laden down with beads, shells and every piece of gap-year-tragedy clobber I could lay my hands on. Couldn't get enough! Now it's a bit less intense but I still wear a lot. I never take my wedding/engagement rings off and it's very rare I leave the house without earrings, bracelets and at least one necklace on. Feel very naked without it.
9.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why?
Easiest question. My fallen star hoops. I was obsessed with them from the moment you launched them. Then I bought a pair to replace some favourite earrings that were stolen when we were burgled about 5 years ago. It's really grim being burgled, but these were just the best by-product of the whole thing. They have genuinely been my most worn earrings for 5 years. I wear them nearly every day, run in them, swim in them. Wore them for both triathlons too!!
10.) Click your fingers and be ….. with …….
I know I should say somewhere with my kids, but the first thing that genuinely popped into my head was... 'on a dance floor, in the sunshine, listening to some mates play great music, dancing with my favourite people. Preferably on a paradise island, (goes without saying).
We ask her what lead her to create the company, how a traumatic injury changed her approach to life and how she juggles work with family life.
We hope her story can inspire you in some way too.
1.) Can you tell us how you started the Sophie Lis?
It has always been obvious to me I wanted to run my own company, I think I was born an entrepreneur! Very early on in my career I moved to a freelance set up, but was always trying to find that one light bulb idea to launch my own brand. It was only when I was planning my wedding I became frustrated as I couldn’t find the right jewellery for the occasion. I searched high and low for a brand which made quality, luxury items without the unaffordable price tag. When I couldn't find anything, I decided to design and make my own for the occasion. The samples arrived just in time for the day and were gifted to my six bridesmaids to be worn for the ceremony. This was the beginning of Sophie Lis jewellery.
2.) How is it running your own business?
I absolutely love what I do and the ups and downs of the roller-coaster ride that come with it. I thrive working for myself, however complicated that can prove when having two young children. My company symbolises my independence and I feel it empowers me to hold onto my own identity outside of my family.
3. ) Has there been anything outside of your career which has had a significant influence on your life or decision making?
When I was 21 I suffered a devastating head injury which left me unable to function and in a constant state of agony. It was a living torture.
Finally diagnosed as a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury, the only prognosis was that they hoped my situation would improve but could give no guarantee this would happen. It was an incredibly dark and lonely time.
Three years later, a more measured normal life began to be possible. It taught me the true value of time and changed how I wanted to spend it and who I spent it with.
4.) What is empowerment to you?
Empowerment is the freedom to make your own decisions and the confidence to be yourself. To have the power of conviction to chase your dreams without wavering.
Through the business I try and empower woman with jewellery that not only looks great, but holds extra symbolic significance. Let’s face it, who doesn’t need a little extra guidance or direction from time to time.
5.) Do you ever struggle keeping up with everything?
Absolutely and constantly. However, I have a very good understanding of who I am and feel as the years go on, I get better and better at being ME. I know what makes me happy, energised and efficient and also vice versa.
My biggest non-negotiable essential for mental and physical health is exercise. I refer to my boxing trainer Pete as my therapist as he never fails to put a smile on my face whilst I sweat out the latest frustration. It gives me total tunnel vision and focus.
6.) What has been your personal career highlight so far?
The first time I saw a stranger wearing a pair of Sophie Lis earrings. She was next to me in a pilates class and was the ultimate WOW moment. Spotting the jewellery on women I pass in the street, on television, Instagram or in magazines really makes me incredibly proud along with being able to make a large donation to The Wild at Heart Foundation which helped change the lives of so many animals in desperate need.
Of course, celebrity spots are so exciting too, but I have to say the personal letter I received from Megan Markle about how much she loved my jewellery was a heart skipping moment!
7.) Describe your personal style
I am a creature of habit and so my style is predictable and unfussy. I love a co-ord set, or fab tailored blazer with jeans and a white t-shirt. I always wear trainers or a pair of black Chanel biker boots.
My wardrobe is a rainbow of monochrome, the blue of denim is about as colourful as I get unless Im in the sun. I do not follow trends but wait to invest in good quality, forever pieces which won't date.
Jewellery should be a forever investment and has to be meaningful.
8.) Favourite piece of Sophie Lis Jewellery
Our Fallen Star hoops were my first design and my personal signature piece. I always have two, side by side in my left ear. Equally the two CODED rings I have from the bespoke collection with my daughters initials, in diamond morse code never come off.
Other pieces I tend to rotate, mix and match depending on mood or occasion.
9.) What are your future plans for the brand?
I would love to see Sophie Lis expand globally, eventually having retail presence all over the World. I am planning to expand our charitable portfolio to support more causes with our growth and also, most importantly work on doing it all as sustainably as possible.
10.) Click your fingers and be.... with....?

Shot at home by Philip Volkers, Chloe wears Sophie Lis Jewellery through the shoot
Chloe Street is the Fashion Editor at London’s Evening Standard. It is her job to be at the forefront of fashion. Chloe reads and analyses the latest trends and breaks them down into digestible fragments before feeding them to the population of London.
Chloe literally dictates what is cool in the capital.
As sophisticated is she is stylish, we were excited to catch up with her at home in Bayswater and ask her a few questions about her passions, values and find out how she made it to where she is now. We hope her story can inspire you too.
1.) Did you always know you were destined for a career in fashion? Was there any indications in your earlier years which showed you may have such a talent and eye for style?
I was always pretty obsessed with clothes and makeup and dressing up as a child! My grandma had drawers full of beautiful makeup and she (very trustingly!) used to let me do hers from the age of about 4.
When I got my first camera, a little film one, I used to style my baby sisters like they were my dolls and do fashion shoots in the garden. They didn’t really get a choice in it!
I was fashion editor of my university newspaper and when I graduated I got a job at Burberry and then went on to work for a company that produced fashion shows. I moved to Hong Kong where I worked for Hong Kong Tatler before moving back to take a job on the fashion team at ES.
2.) Is there anything outside your career which has been of significant influence or had a serious effect on your life.
Moving to Hong Kong at 25 was an amazing experience. I went for a 2 week holiday to stay with a friend and ended up skipping my flight home and finding myself a job and a flat. I came away 2.5 years later having travelled a lot of Asia with lots of amazing memories and some even more amazing friends.
3.) Describe your personal style.
Varied, unfussy, ever-evolving
4.) What are your go to, fail safe wardrobe hero pieces?
I live in Levi’s and L’Agence jeans (their fits and fabrics are the best and they do a longer length), white tees, cashmere jumpers and trainers by day. Micro minis by night.
I’m forever on the hunt for the perfect white shirt
5.) How important is it these days for a fashion brand to be sustainable and do brand's environmental credentials affect the way you would work with them?
There’s a lot of noise in the fashion space and I am increasingly reluctant to give my attention to brands that are making no effort to reduce their environmental impact. In my opinion no brand should launch these days without sustainability firmly rooted in the business plan.
That said, it’s become such an overused word that I think brands need to be clear about the specific things they are doing to be eco friendly, not just call themselves “sustainable”
6.) What does empowerment mean to you?
Understanding yourself and your goals and then having the courage to fight for them, to me that’s empowerment.
7.) Is jewellery important to you? What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why.
I love jewellery! Good jewellery has a magic to it. It tells a quiet story about the wearer and their personality.
I am quite chaotic so I really love jewellery I don’t have to take off. My favourite Sophie Lis piece is the fallen star bracelet as it’s so timeless and twinkly. And I love the new magic leaf hoops they are so fun.

]]>Photographed in Chuc's Notting Hill, Zara Martin wears Sophie Lis Jewellery throughout the shoot.
Arrestingly beautiful with a Bond girl bod and smile which could shatter hearts, there is no argument Zara Martin is 100% bombshell! Scratch the surface and you continue to uncover the magic. Zara is not only a cool kid but is the kindest around with a heart of gold. International DJ by night, mother and charity ambassador by day, Zara Martin is a poster girl for the modern day Madonna.
We caught up with her in Chuc’s, Notting Hill to find out just how she juggles life and makes it all work.
1.) Growing up, was it always clear to you that you would do something in the public eye or was you natural ability to be in front of an audience something that happened in time?
I guess it was always something I was drawn to but the road, like everything was not linear, and my career as has many incarnations. I was studying Economics at UCL when I got an internship at MTV which kicked off my TV career. From there I’m moved into the DJing which sort of took over. The pandemic has really changed all industries as we know them, everything happens online!
2.) Would you describe yourself as a confident person or is that something you had to learn to be to do what you do?
I think I’ve always been fairly confident - maybe that’s not true, maybe I’ve always been sort of brave which I mistook for confidence - but it’s definitely something that has grown with age. I have learned that true confidence only comes in knowing who you are and that takes time, and life experience.
3.) Having two young children myself, I am always in awe of working mothers, especially when late nights are involved as people don’t realise you have to get up a few hours after getting home! How do you juggle this work / life balance?
Becoming a mother is so incredibly life altering on many levels - one of which, and perhaps the most spoken about topic is the lack of sleep. You just adapt. There is no choice really. The most inspiring thing, I have found, about mothers is that they just get shit done. I don’t know how I, or anyone else, strikes a balance because I’m not sure it exists - but I do know that the love is the most propelling force on earth.
4.) What do you do to relax and recharge? Do you have a secret weapon?
I live for my workouts at the moment. It really is that cliche “me time” that I used to roll my eyes at (like most things pre-motherhood haha). But strong body, strong mind as they say and I feel like I’m just a better human once I’ve worked out. I also really appreciate the gym now after the various lockdowns so will never take going to it for granted again! I have been training with Lee Mullins at the Workshop Gymnasium in the Bvlgari Hotel for the past 5 years - he has taken me through many a life event and I couldn’t have done it without him.
5.) How would you describe your personal style?
Melania Trump leaving The White House! LOL!
6.) Who is your style inspiration?
I don’t know, I love classic, elegant, but it’s such a hard question to answer because I appreciate how other women can wear clothes that personally I wouldn’t. I think women like Penelope Cruz and Monica Bellucci always get it right - but then again they are so beautiful is anyone even looking at what they are wearing?
7.) What are your go to – fail safe – couldn’t live without items?
If I had to pack a bag - Barbara Sturm skincare, my Alessandra Rich Dresses and Gucci coats, a good pair of jeans, a killer pair of heels- and all my jewels!!
8.) Is jewellery important to you and what do you look for in new investment pieces?
Yes, of course!! I’m very detail oriented and feel like your jewellery adds that something extra. I think it says a lot about you! In new pieces, I look for something classic that I won’t get bored of - this applies to jewellery and everything else in life!
9.) Which is your favourite piece in the Sophie Lis collection and why?
I love the comet ear climber and the Big Dipper. Super comfortable, don’t need to take them off and they are out of reach for busy little toddler hands…
10.) Click your fingers and be...
Out of the pandemic, enjoying life with family and good friends.
]]>I am honoured to introduce Marina Lambton as my latest inspirational woman, and Sophie Lis girl. A serene and mystical beauty, Marina not only manages to juggle the demands of four young children, but simultaneously has masterminded the total renovation of 17th century baroque Villa Cetinale in Tuscany. Now available to rent, Cetinale is said to be one of the most luxurious and leading villas of the world. The interiors and gardens are critically acclaimed and have been featured across leading global press. The location has been used for an array elite private events and even appeared in the recent season finale of blockbuster series Succession.
Stepping through the ancient stone gates of Villa Cetinale is like entering an other worldly wonderland. Marina has created a majestic safe haven where every one of your needs are anticipated and met before you are even aware of them. Whether you want to totally relax or party each night away under the stars, there is nowhere more magical on earth.
Villa Cetinale holds a particularly special place in my heart as it is where I got married. I designed the Fallen Star earrings for the wedding and my bridesmaids wore the first ever samples of the jewellery from which I launched the brand. I was especially thrilled Marina agreed to let me photograph her and I am excited to give a small insight into how she made it all happen.
Villa Cetinale as it stands today.
1.) Can you tell me about the first time you arrived at Villa Cetinale?
I was only nine when I first visited. My first memory was meeting Ned’s father who was a real character and asked me lots of inappropriate questions!
2.) I cannot even imagine how you would begin to start such a huge process such as the revamp of the ancient Villa… especially in Italy! How did you and Ned come to the decision to begin its restoration and what was your vision?
We realized that we either had to sell the property or restore it to a very high standard it in order to rent it out to high-end clients. We chose the latter, and we are now seeing the light at the end of what has been a long tunnel!
3.) Did you have any previous experience in this field and what were the biggest hurdles you overcame during the process?
I had no previous experience but I was always interested in interiors, which I had inherited from my mother as she has, in my view, fantastic and original taste. Quite a lot of the restoration also included technical elements like new plumbing, heating, wiring, and a new roof. A nightmare at the time, but it’s all in the past now.
4.) The style behind the interior is incredibly unique, exquisitely executed and undoubtedly yours! The room designs have been critically acclaimed by the World’s leading media and featured in luxury interior books. Did you have any training in design or is it something which comes naturally to you?
It came naturally to me as I grew learning tips from my mother who did up our house in Devon beautifully. I must also give credit here to Camilla Guinness, my interior designer friend. Improvements are continuous, and we welcome feedback.
5.) Do you think your interior style is reflected in fashion choices or vice versa? Describe your fashion style.
Yes I think they are similar, I think I have a bohemian style but also quite clean and practical.
6.) When it comes to accessories such as jewellery, what is important to you? What is your favorite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why?
I love all Sophie Lis jewellery but particularly the pieces that feature stars or snakes. I love the star pieces as they remind me of my daughter who is called Stella. I have always loved snakes on clothing or jewellery. I wear my Sophie Lis Fallen Star and Celestial hoops and Health pendant everyday.
7.) I couldn’t be more excited to hear about your upcoming coffee table book on Cetinale. Can you tell us when that will be out?
Rizzoli are publishing it and it should be out by September 2023. My husband is going to be doing all the writing for it. It will be a really fun project for us to do together.
8.) You are in the process of developing a retail outlet at Villa Cetinale. Last year saw a huge collaboration with my favourite Italian luxury perfumery Ortigia. Can you tell us about any future plans?
I now have a shop where you can buy products online or at the Cetinale shop, located on the premises. I am in the process of growing this side of the business. I really enjoy sourcing and designing new things for the shop.
We have Cetinale soaps, shampoos, conditioners and bath salts made for us by Ortigia in all our bathrooms of all the rental properties on the Cetinale estate and we also sell them. I designed the packaging with a friend who works at Ortigia.
9.) How much time do you and your family spend in Tuscany?
About 3 months per year.
10.) Click your fingers and be…… with……?

]]>It seems forever ago we selected this formidable and stylish duo as our next inspirational women feature. Lockdown has been long and the world is certainly a rather different place than before, however looking at how businesses can survive, adapt and hopefully thrive is all the more interesting and relevant.
It is my pleasure to introduce Lady Emily Compton and Olivia Buckingham who together form bespoke styling service “Emily & Olivia”.
Long-time friends and West London locals, the pair have a combined 15 years of experience in the fashion industry. Emily is a former society editor to Tatler magazine and continues to contribute to the publication while Olivia is a contributing editor to Vogue Hong Kong.
Since Olivia’s return to the UK from HK in 2018, the pair have also consulted on and hosted events for luxury fashion brands, glamorous charity fundraisers and are regulars on the front row at New York, Paris and Milan fashion week.
Due to their involvement in the fashion world and high profile globetrotting, they have developed a unique understanding of how to dress in the most diverse and exclusive settings and their combined knowledge of fashion is second to none. No one knows better how to organise a wardrobe for any occasion, handle a fashion emergency or create a one time look to dazzle a crowd.
We sit down with the blonde bombshells and ask ten quick questions on just how they came to launch their company and how they have adapted to continue to make it work this year.
1.) Can you tell me how you met and the process that led to the formation of your friendship, partnership and ultimately your company?
We actually met at one of Andy Wong’s infamous Chinese New Year party at the Royal Courts of Justice fifteen years ago!! We kept in touch ever since and as the years went on, our friendship grew stronger. Upon Olivia’s return to London after ten years in Hong Kong, we got our heads together and started brainstorming over our mutual love of fashion. Our individual styles and love of creating looks organically led to a natural transition to styling and our style consultancy business Emily & Olivia was soon born.

2.) Can you explain how Emily and Olivia styling service works?
We create tailor made styling solutions to suit the needs of each individual client. We pride ourselves on making every person feel like the best version of themselves and above all, comfortable so our approach is a nurturing and explorative experience. From a simple wardrobe edit to a full wardrobe detox, styling day to day essentials or red carpet looks, we do it all. Because we have direct relationships with the designers, no task is too big or too small. Be it latest season's hardest to get must have item to bespoke couture, we were once described by a client as “Fashion’s Fairy Godmothers” which really hit the nail on the head.

3.) Can you describe your individual styles? How do they work together?
When it comes to our individual styles we have the same eye when it comes to our looks but wear them in totally different ways. For example, the iconic tuxedo. Emily might wear it with a skinny jean and white trainers and Olivia will pair it with high waisted trousers and high heels.
4.) What are your favourite go to fashion brands, hero pieces and couldn’t live without staples?
Emily: My hero piece is a Galliano dusty pink flamenco style dress I bought twenty years ago which I still wear today. I also love Celine accessories and Skiim sustainable leather for a night out. My staples consist of Fiorucci jeans, Isabel Marant t-shirt’s and Chanel trainers.
Olivia: I mostly can be found in my iconic Burberry trench or a tuxedo. I swear by Racil and Alexander McQueen. I’m rarely seen without statement earrings, Sophie Lis Fallen Star and Shooting Star combo have lived in my ears for over a year! I also love a boiler suit to go from day to night look when there isn’t time to go home and get changed.
Emily wears our Rockstar Drop hoops. Olivia combines our Supernova and Shooting Star hoops and Luna necklace
5.) Obviously Covid 19 and lock down has had a huge impact on your business with the disappearance of events to dress for. Can you tell us how you have filled the time or adapted the business? Can you work remotely?
With restrictions firmly in place during lockdown, we were forced as a business to look for different opportunities in a time of crisis. We now offer an exclusive virtual styling service via Zoom or What’s App. Wherever you are in the world we can help source pieces for you. Also what better time to clear out your wardrobe than now? After all a decluttered wardrobe helps to declutter ones mind! We began doing digital wardrobe detoxing which has proved a huge success and we plan to continue this new path as a full service for the business.
With lockdown lifted we can now travel to people’s homes within the social distancing regulations and guide our clients through what to keep, give away or resell in their wardrobes. Cleansing, restyling and rebuilding. Depending on the client’s needs we have relationships with established companies who specialise in re-sale, rentals or charity donations.

6.) Given the current global situation, how do you see the fashion industry changing and how will you work differently in the future?
We are extremely lucky to work with Arizona Muse who as well as being an international model, is also educating us when it comes to awareness in sustainability and conscious clothing which were are introducing to our clients.

7.) How important is jewellery to creating a look or outfit?
We both think jewellery is crucial when creating a full look, it is the ultimate way of personalising an outfit and really making it your own. Since most people own a few pieces of significant, meaningful jewellery such as gifts from someone special, engagement or wedding rings or pieces passed down through the family, we like to combine these sentimental items with a few new finds to really make an outfit complete.
Emily’s vibe is less is more whereas Olivia’s take is more is more so we can really give a client every option!

8.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why.
Emily wears the diamond shooting stars hoops to wear as her everyday staple. As we mentioned before, Olivia is not seen without her fallen star hoops but also loves adding the XL statement Shooting Star Pearl hoops for an extra WOW factor.
9.) When you’re not in the office, where can we find you?

Photographed at home in West London, Pippa wears Sophie Lis jewellery throughout the shoot. In this picture she wears our Luna Necklace with diamond Supernova and Fallen Star hoops
The first time I met Pippa Vosper was in her shop “Pippa Store” in Notting hill. She was effervescent, optimistic, down to earth and totally charming. I left the store with an exciting new purchase in hand and an extra spring in my step. She had made me feel great and brightened up my day.
Shortly after our meeting I read her totally devastating and heart breaking story in Vogue on losing her baby. I was moved to tears and totally shocked. How could this wonderfully positive person who made me feel so good about myself be in so much pain?
Sadly, the reality is that this smoke screen is the new normal. We post our glossiest moments to social media showcasing our “perfect” lives which is so far from an everyday reality. A quick scroll through Instagram rarely leaves you feeling positive but more likely that you are failing. Failing at work, in appearance, in your social life, family life or all of the above.
After going through such a life changing tragedy, Pippa decided to raise mental health awareness by speaking out about her trauma. She decided to tell the world that its ok not to be ok. By sharing her darkest moments, experience of loss and the deep depression that followed she gives others hope. She shows us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is possible to get through it and in doing so, is a true inspiration.
Alongside this, Pippa is a full time mother, inspirational speaker, freelance fashion consultant and also writing a book. A master at keeping all these balls in the air, she will happily admit that one or all of them can fall at any time, and that’s ok. She decided to live in the moment and enjoy what life brings to her.
How her style still manages to be immaculate and totally aspirational I can not fathom but what I love about her most is that she is honest and speaks the truth. She makes me want to be a better person and this is why she is my latest inspirational woman and new #sophielisgirl.
I take great pleasure introducing you to Pippa Vosper and hope that this interview inspires others to be a little more Pippa.

1.) Did you always know you were destined for a career in fashion? Was there any indications in your earlier years which showed you may have such a talent and eye for style?
I had always been interested in fashion, but was working in advertising when I answered an anonymous job ad in the Times for a PA to a creative. The creative turned out to be Claudia Schiffer and I spent the next year working as her assistant. I met so many people through the role and naturally moved into styling work when I left.
2.) Can you give us a brief summary of your career to date and anything outside of this which has been of significant influence or had a serious effect on your life.
Through my role with Claudia I was lucky to meet incredible names in fashion - Edward Enninful being one of them. Edward introduced me to Terry Jones at i-D magazine and with Edward's support I ended up styling many i-D covers, leading to styling work for Amercian Vogue, W, Interview, L'uomo Vogue. I also knew a lot of musicians and went on tour with some of the most incredible bands, styling them for their shows and shoots. In my portfolio are shoots with The Killers, The Libertines, Duran Duran, Kings of Leon, so many more. When I grew up a little (i.e. I no longer wanted to spend my nights on tour buses and waking up with continual hangovers!) I accepted the job of fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar before leaving to have my first child. I didn't want to return to magazines after maternity leave, so set up two stores hosting high end sample sales. I loved being a shop girl, but when my other children were born I knew I needed to be around more so closed the stores and am now consulting for brands, hosting events while writing my first book.
Pippa wears our Luna Necklace and both Supernova and Fallen Star hoops
3.) Was ever a “light bulb” moment or point where you realised you had “made it” as a person with influence in the industry
Haha no, I still don't feel this way. I have influence in areas, as we all do, but there will never be a time when I feel satisfied that I have 'made it'. I find that I now influence in a more human way, letting people know that life isn't always perfect, no matter how this glamorous fashion world appears.
4.) Can you tell us a bit more about what you are currently working on?
With my daughter only 7 months old, I don't have a nanny and am doing as much as I can when I can, working with brands and consulting for existing clients. My priority is giving as much of myself to Audrey, while not losing myself and continuing to make it work with my fashion projects. Writing my book is my other main focus. I write when I can, at night, when Audrey sleeps, at weekends when my husband is home. Once I have 50,000 words I can then start the serious conversations with book publishers.
5.) In the current age where influencers have so much power, you are one of the few who tries to highlight real life truths. How important is it for more to follow suit?
I experienced a huge trauma in 2017 when I lost my son to a premature birth at home. I could never go back to exclusively sugar-coated content on my social channels after this life changing time. I now tell the truth about how I am feeling and what I am going through when it feels right to do so, showing postpartum weight gain, explaining my anxiety and depression when it arises. I find that I cannot look at certain accounts on Instagram these days as I am disappointed at their content - pictures that are purely ego led, or new mothers who make others feel inferior by promoting their snap-back in shape bodies while in full hair and make up mere days after giving birth. This is not influencing, this is a damaging message to others struggling to regain their identities and who see this content as 'normal', when it is far from normal. I want to question content that lends itself to promoting negative feelings in others. Many 'influencers' need to consider the message in their content and how it could affect others.
6.) Can you describe your style evolution through the years.
There has been high fashion, rock'n'roll, back to high fashion. Now I just wear signature pieces that I know suit me; good jeans, classic blazers, structured dresses.
7.) Can you describe your personal style today? What are your hero, couldn’t live without pieces?
Light wash denim and my timeless Chanel blazers. The faux fur lined Prada combat boots I'm living in, which were my splurge purchase of the season and will easily be with me 10 years from now. A rotation of white and grey classic t-shirts and always a small cross-body bag, usually Old Celine.
Pippa wears our XL Love Heart pearl hoops with smaller, diamond Love heart hoops and diamond surround Love pendant
8.) You are the most incredible mother. How do you manage balancing work and family life?
By not thinking and just doing! I seldom complain about my time restraints as I know how lucky I am to be a mother and to work. I don't have a nanny, I have more projects in the pipeline than usual, but you only have one life so I just push forward and somehow get (mostly) everything done.
9.) Is jewellery important to you? What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why.
For me, I don't feel any outfit is complete without statement earrings. I first noticed your pieces in magazines on various beautiful actresses, then everyone I knew was suddenly wearing your star earrings! I knew I would love the Fallen Star earrings and now I have them I find they're the only earrings I actually wear during the day - not too large, they're the right size for someone like me who needs a bold look, but doesn't want to look like I've tried too hard for a lunch meeting.

Vanessa and Teo are the dream team behind Virago Films.
Meeting this dynamic duo you are immediately transported into their world, a positive happy, almost dream like place where magic can happen.
You can understand from the outset just how the pair get s*** done.
I recently found myself reading Forbes article on the key to entrepreneurial success and all I could think was tick, tick TICK… the Virago girls have got it all and in spades!
They and both whip smart, cultured, well-travelled and informed. With it, they are approachable, relatable, positive and kind.
They have a relaxed self-assured confidence which makes you believe anything is possible… however crazy the idea, there is no doubt this duo can make it happen!!
Vanessa and Teo posses a fresh and diverse, childlike approach to thinking which is why you can see they are experts at creating fresh, unique ideas and storytelling with total originality. You want to be part of their world which is why top power houses such as Acne, Nike, Graff and Harrods use them to create their ads. Above all, spending time with them is FUN!
Not only do the girls have contracts with these powerhouse brands, they also are working on their own passion projects based on empowering women around the world.
Virago means Female Warrior and this team is just that, a role model for feminism and entrepreneurship.
I am honoured to introduce you to the team and hope their story inspires you.

1.) Can you give me a brief summary of your careers to date and anything outside of this which has been of significant influence or had a serious effect on your life?
I started modelling and acting in my teens while in high school, which helped pay my way through university where I focused on tropical medicine. I spent my summers in Africa and South East Asia, from Swaziland and South Africa to Mozambique and Singapore volunteering and doing research to improve access to HIV treatment, particularly for children and women. I began using film as a means of documenting my research, and realised that I unintentionally had captured footage that was powerful enough to make people think.
This led to assistant producing a mini series starring the sons of Bob Marley focused on African Unity during the World Cup in South Africa and the rest is history. I did an internship at the World Health Organisation and a brief stint in management consultancy but always found my way back to storytelling. An opportunity to work for a studio in London soon gave me the experience and network I needed to tell my own stories, stories with a strong female voice which led to co-founding Virago Films with Teo,
TB: Coming out of high school my focus was humanitarian work. The last year of school I had been devoting myself to create a talent show called “Youth Helping Youth” that would generate sponsors and money to build a primary school in Benin, Africa. After that I was part of a project to build a health clinic in Kenya and I also worked with an organisation called Charity Rating, an independent rating platform of NGO’s. Working with this organisation I realised that only 2% of the money NGOs generate goes to the designated destination in need. I didn't like it and decided I wanted to get out of that field and instead work with storytelling to communicate human condition and imbalances in the world.
I then went to Paris to study filmmaking and communications which lead to a long learning experience within the industry. I ran an independent film festival, worked as a TV producer for the advertising agency Fred and Farid Group. After two years of managing and working on big budget productions, I just couldn’t put my director dreams to rest... I had an urge to create and write. I moved to London to develop my filmmaking skills and after that I started working on a fictional account of a personal story about my godmother which I mentioned to Vanessa when we first met, and this became one of our first projects (and learning lessons!) with Virago Films.
Vanessa wears our XL Shooting Star pearl hoops with our long Compass Pendant and bespoke CODED ring
2.) Where did you grow up, what brought you to London?
VF: I grew up in Toronto, Canada with summers in Treasure Beach, Jamaica and crossed the pond to study at Oxford, but didn’t expect to stay in London until I fell in love.
I grew up around female forces- from my grandmother in Jamaica who ran her own company to watching my single mother balance her full-time job, an evening gig and weekends antique dealing at the market with my sister and I by her side all with incredible skill, savviness and pearls around her neck. She taught me to think bigger, be impeccable with your word and never forget where you came from. The most inspiring and empathetic woman I knew.
TB: I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden. I also had a very strong mum who always pushed me to think that I could do anything I wanted to do. If I wanted something she would say things such as, “just write to Obama and ask him. I’m sure he would love it”. Taking all this with a pinch of salt, she still made me rather fearless. So after school I was in Africa to follow the construction of the school, then I travelled Asia and finally landed in Paris where I would live for 6 years Before moving to London, which I now consider home. My passion is people and their actions and psychology motivates me. The stories I am driven by are always generated by humanity and what drives it.
We as a team are passionate about telling stories that focus on unheard voices, particularly those of empowering women. The word ‘Virago’ actually means “female warrior” and embodies what inspires us and defines us.
Teo stacks our Sundance hoops in XL and mini sizes
3.) Tell us about your company Virago. How did you guys meet and how was it born?
We met through a common friend that was starring in one of the films Vanessa was studio exec-ing with the Weinstein Company. It was at the Swedish festival Way Out West (think a tidy version of Glastonbury) and we actually almost didn't talk to each other then...in retrospect, it was almost as if we were both intimidated and fascinated by each other. Back in London, we met for a coffee and could not stop talking. We bonded over David Lynch, Transcendental Meditation and our thirst to understand the big questions in life.
It was one of those cosmic moments that you never expect, that leaves you no choice but to embark on a new adventure. Virago Films was born, a creative studio where we produced short films and commercials. We soon realised we needed to tell our own story, inspired by the truth of our experiences, and began working on a series called +1 about the complexity of a modern woman who has to be an adventurous & spontaneous lover, an adoring mum and a powerful careerist. We like to say it’s a female version of Entourage with a bit more edge. We’re developing it with Nice Drama.
Teodora is also repped by Acne Films where she does all of her commercial work and Vanessa is heading up production for Kukua, an African children’s entertainment company bringing strong female African role models to children worldwide. We feel so lucky being able to be a part of diverse projects that keep us on our toes and learning from each of our individual experiences.
First and foremost, we’re sisters and partners for life so we will never stop working together...even when we’re 90!
4.) Can you describe your personal style? What are your hero fashion pieces / couldn’t live without staples?
Off-White meets old school vintage. We’re both storytellers so in a way we like our personal style to emphasize that...a little old and a little new, and to put things into a different context.
Our hero fashion pieces...definitely our Nike Air Force 1 shoes - we are both obsessed with them : ) We like to mix and match and always have a statement piece, whether it’s a leather vintage jacket or fun earrings.
We both love colour- Vanessa more into bold, contrasting colours and metallics, while Teodora sees black as her national anthem and has a fetish for neon socks.
5.) Your individual style obviously has huge influence on your creative vision. How do your styles work together?
We both share the same style philosophy when it comes to spicing things up. We are obsessed with mix-match, nothing can look too perfectly coordinated. We gladly mix vintage with couture, there’s nothing better than Levi’s with a vintage Chanel jacket. Teodora loves Scandinavian brands and Vanessa’s obsession is jumpsuits and streetwear- she is even launching a children’s clothing line called Mini Monroe honing her effortlessly cool style for all mini me’s out there.
We love clothes swapping, revamping and upcycling. Vanessa loves adding cool elements to revive her wardrobe...like changing the buttons, adding epaulettes, or putting golden wings on a ripped jean jacket.
Our main differentiator in style is that Vanessa prefers a more feminine look (she really can pulloff a Jackie O look even with that wild hair) while Teo is more into the androgynous look....black suits, leather jackets, levis jeans and sneakers. However, we both agree that there always needs to be both feminine and masculine aspects in a look in order for it to stand out and be interesting.
6.) What sets Viagro apart from its competitors?
We are really on the quest to understand the next wave of feminism and telling stories that challenge the status quo and represent our generation in an honest way. We’re by no means experts, but we are hustling everyday to make sure these stories stand out and get seen by the audience they deserve.

7.) You are both working mothers. How do you manage balancing work and family life? What’s the secret?!!
This is an interesting question because we believe if you think of work and family life as separate elements, you have already put motherhood in a box. As mothers, we are still our individual selves with our own purpose as we were without children. I guess we have just never stopped to ask ourselves that question, LOL!
It’s like a marathon, we keep on running - sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Sometimes we hit rock bottom and need to find our way back. But working and “running” life together, it is so much easier and when one of us needs more support or just time to take a breather, we share energy. Our theory is that pregnancy and motherhood can be your force, your light. We make sure we use every drop of time and have the best team around us to execute. We prioritise. We balance caring for our loved ones, nurturing our souls and bodies whenever we can, surrounding ourselves with challenging ideas, good vibes, colourful food, yoga, mediation and friends who make us laugh. Watch our insta to see the launch of our project MOTHERHOOD shot by Teodora drop next month.

8.) You are both travelling a lot. What are your secret weapons to move from plane to train to meeting to night out whilst always managing to appear so fabulous?
TB: Ever since Vanessa gave me her secret mixture of shea butter and vitamin E, I’ve been hooked...that trick is everything to keep your skin looking fresh. My personal weapon is to not eat in airplanes as it’s harder for the body to digest in the air and it naturally fatigues you more. Face masks, laughter, the joy of discovery of new places and people are my weapon to staying fabulous and we also both try to take time daily to meditate and source the creative energy. When all the above has tried and failed... we turn to tequila, aperol spritz and reggae music!
VF: As Teo said, my secret weapon is healthy skin...no matter how much makeup, outfits, accessories you wear, if your skin is glowing and flawless you will always look fabulous. Scents are also a priority for me so I carry around a kit of Doterra homeopathic essential oils to help keep me going and wake up my spirit, and never forget my B12 supplements!
Vanessa wears our Fallen Star ring
9.) Is jewellery (or other accessories) important to you?
TB: They have started to be in the past years. because I realise I can embrace a comfy style and then by just putting on some badass jewellery, I can totally own the look in a different way.
VF: Growing up, accessories were always important to me- I would find little pieces at the antique markets my mom worked at and I would use it to dress up my clothing or a brooch to repurpose an old hand me down bag. Now it’s less about being fashionable, and all about defining who I am so I chose pieces that are little symbols that tell my story. I am all about contrast so I like to pair big stones with ripped jeans and boxing shoes, and my colourful, playful costume Jewellery with a black tie gown or cocktail dress
10.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why?
We were both fans of the Venus Hoops and the shooting star pearls hoop because they represent what’s important to us- female force and our unstoppable drive to keep going onwards and upwards. We could not decide which ones we both preferred the most, so we decided to split up the pairs and have one of each. Asymmetry is always the best.
Vanessa wears our Venus Hoops, Lightning Bolt necklace and bespoke CODED and emerald eternity rings
Teo wears our Fallen Heart hoops with Venus Studs together with Lightning Bolt and Fallen Star bracelets

11.) What is your favorite thing about being a “Girl Boss”?
Our hope is that soon the concept of “girl boss” would just be referred to as boss…period. Just like we hope that one day soon, people will not need to use the term “female producer” or “female director”. But yes, our favourite thing about being our own boss is that we can make the time to do what we love and this is a luxury we both deeply cherish.
12.) With so much responsibility, do you find it hard to switch off? What do you do to disconnect?
We are experts at dance offs. Vanessa is a secret old-school hip-hop DJ and Teodora is (not so secretly) working on her dancehall moves of twerks and dutty wines after our trip to Jamaica.
13.) When you’re not in the office, where can we find you? Click your fingers and be…….
Where weird, creative and inspiring things are happening!
With…..? Our families and friends

1.) Tell us about your company WickerWood
WickerWood was started five years ago by myself and my business partner, Gabby Wickham. It has grown in a way that neither of us imagined, becoming the leading brand influence agency with an incredible core team, an international client list that continues to work with us locally and globally and a strong prominent presence in the industry.
We started the company initially as a consultancy, choosing work with a selection of clients focusing on a new area that we were interested in; brand influence. It was a term that we had started to hear, and we knew that this was where PR and marketing were going to be heading in due course.
We have been very lucky to have worked with some of today’s most influential brands either from creation and launch or further down the line with repositioning and development. Over the years, we have also been fortunate to have built a highly efficient team of talented individuals. Running a company is no easy task, and I often tell people when they ask me for advice on wanting to start their own thing; ‘Only do it if you understand that a majority of your focus will be on building and running a business.’ If you love what you do and are good at it, go and work for someone where your only focus will be your job.

2.) Was there a defining moment where you knew luxury and lifestyle would be a big part of your life?
From an early age, I was always interested in the luxury and lifestyle sector, but my teenage years were spent pursuing a professional career as a classical and contemporary dancer. I trained extensively at Elmhurst, Birmingham Royal Ballet, with a strong focus towards the end of my training in choreography. Due to various reasons, I think I went on to advance my training in theatre and film at Lee Strasberg in New York, considering a career in film, potentially directing and producing, an extension, I assume, from my work as a choreographer.
It was on returning from New York that I started to experience more of the luxury and lifestyle industry and naturally, my path started to lead me to build a career in this sector. There was no monumental moment, just a seamless transition into this field with a built-in understanding and ability for positioning brands correctly for their target audience. I learned as I worked, discovering ways to build brands that would resonate, always remembering to think about the customer and what their desires and needs were from a brand. I would love to say I went to some impression school for marketing and learnt it all there, but I didn’t, I learnt as I went, probably one of the most important ways to learn in this ever-changing industry.
3.) In the current climate, PR seems to be shifting away from print media towards celebs and influencers. How has your company evolved with these changes and what do you see in the future?
From concept, we always positioned WickerWood as a Brand Influence agency. It took some time for people to understand our terminology fully, but it was clear for Gabby and I from the start that the PR landscape was drastically changing, and we want to help brands understand this and realise their goals through our new approach. Over time, through our hugely successful work with some of the most recognisable brands of today, our approach became more and more relevant for brands and they naturally started to take to our processes and seek our expertise and guidance further. Our philosophy is to have a 360 approach to our work, understanding the brand's target audience and how to engage for maximum brand influence through PR, marketing, social and digital, experiences, events and VIP, influencer and affluence engagement. The ethos of the agency is to identify, engage, immerse, and influence. Traditional PR is still an element of our campaigns, but it is one of the 7-8 points of engagement. Print and digital press is still significant for several reasons. The growth of social influencers has been dominating the industry for some time, growing at an alarming rate but consistently reaching new peaks, but that is changing. The power of influence is diversifying and shifting as the consumer evolves. Success is now found not in the reach of an influencer but in the creation of their content, their concentration of brand, and the focus of their audience. We foresee a more significant shift with brands into a focus on the power of their loyal consumer's influence and the strength of word of mouth and ‘raving fan’ endorsements.
In this series Shirley wears Sophie Lis Fallen Star hoop earrings, Luna necklace with Love Pendant on a short chain. Ring and bracelet are Sophie Lis Fallen Star collection. Dress by Temperly.
4.) Describe your personal work style. What are your absolute favourite, couldn't live without fashion staples?
Silk cigarette pants, structured high heels, and a silk blouse is my go-to look. It’s versatile, chic, elegant and can easily do from day to night, which is important as my day can start pretty early with a breakfast meeting and then go late into the evening. My key wardrobe brands include Malone Souliers, Diane von Furstenberg, Maje, Caroline Herrera, Amanda Wakeley, Alice and Olivia, Kalita, Temperley. Dream brands that I would die to have a wardrobe full of Emilia Wickstead and Oscar De Le Renta.
5.) Your business involves creating a lot of events for clients. What are your secrets moving from a day to night look without spending too much time re-styling?
Lipstick and great blow dry. Of course, heels and statement jewellery can also transform an outfit and is my trick for day to night, and is the reason you will also find hidden in my work bag a pair of heels and a bag of jewellery.
Shirley wears Sophie Lis Fallen Star Necklace with Fallen Star ring, Lightning Bolt hoop earrings and bracelet. Her trousers are Stella McCartney and shirt by Zara.
6.) Are accessories or jewellery important to you?
I have a vast range of different jewellery from fun statement pieces to sentimental pieces that I wear every day. Having jewellery that symbolises something for me is essential, especially the pieces I wear every day. I wear five pieces daily, that all have a story. My citrinin and diamond ring was a gift to myself when I completed my first big project by myself before starting the agency. It is a reminder to myself that I can achieve what I put my mind too. I also wear a 1940’s gold multi-strand bracelet that was my grandmothers, a Tiffany Clasp bracelet given to me for my 21st, a star and moon necklace given from my business partner (apparently I am impossible to buy for so she wanted to give me the stars and the moon, so cute) and my Sophie Lis Fallen Moon necklace that never comes off.
7.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why?
My next purchase from Sophie Lis is the Compass Pendant; it symbolises so much to me. Finding one’s way in life, guiding one through the many twists and turns. A beautiful piece with so much meaning.
8.) What is your favourite thing about being a Girl Boss and running WickerWood?
There are things I enjoy and things that I find tough in my job, but I am always trying to make sure that I am learning, evolving and processing, which is an important process. There is no manual on how to be 'your' Girl Boss (although there are so great books out there that can help guide you that I highly recommend), you need to discover your Girl Boss yourself and that comes from being open to learning as you go. You can not know everything. It is vital that you identify your strengths and weaknesses as well as your team’s strengths and weaknesses, so you can complement each other and grow. Growth is essential in being a Girl Boss.
There is so much to take from the work that I do from working with my clients to working with my team to working with my business partner. It is a real pleasure building incredible brands and working with amazing people, but it is not always easy. There are still those moments when you need to readdress things, review ways of working, understanding intentions or possible outcomes.
We are lucky that we have been fortunate with building some of the most influential brands of the future but it is the people we have the pleasure working with along the way that makes the journey unique and that is not only our clients but our team too.
But it is not always smooth sailing, there are always hard moments where things don’t work out as planned and the stress levels rise, crisis mode kicks in and you need to think fast and problem solve. But honestly, without these moments, the highs would never feel as good. You need the lows; they show you so much about yourself.
Shirley wears Sophie Lis Gypsy Heart hoops with Fallen Moon necklace and Compass Pendant on a Long chain. Yellow dress by Beulah.
9.) With so much responsibility, do you find it hard to switch off? What do you do to disconnect?
Running any company comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility, however big or small the company. Switching off is never easy due to the environment, but it is essential to find ways to disconnect for periods and focus on yourself and mental wellbeing.

Pictured at home in Notting Hill and surrounded by her own artwork, Silje wears Valle and Vik throughout the shoot. Pictured here wearing the "The Goddess" maxi dress together with Sophie Lis Lightning Bolt hoops, Spike Studs and Compass pendant
There is no question, Silje Vallevik has the “IT” factor.
Not only is she beautiful, disarmingly so; with sky high chiselled cheekbones, paradisiacal figure and a smile to die for but she is enchanting… or perhaps entrancing!!
It is said when agencies scout new faces, typically they look for that "IT" factor which consists of the confidence and coolness that models give off while casually walking down a runway. It is hard to explain what this truly is, but you can't learn it- you either have it or you don't.
She has it, in bucket loads!
Silje is a Norwegian artist, model and now designer, founder and creative director of the newest, coolest fashion brand on the block; Valle & Vik. We meet the designer at her London apartment and ask her ten quick questions about her life and pathway to success.
Silje wears The Long Flirt dress in Ville Blomst Turquoise with Sophie Lis Lightning Bolt Studs, Spike hoops, Lightning Bolt necklace and long Compass Pendant. On her hands and wrist she wears Sophie Lis bespoke Coded eternity ring, Fallen Star ring and Lightning Bolt bracelet
1.) Tell us about the Valle and Vik brand.
Valle & Vik is an accessible-luxury womenswear brand that delivers a style transcending dress codes, destinations and I hope, generations. I want to create clothes you will wear and cherish forever, clothes that bring you joy and will be passed down to your children. We are the opposite of fast fashion.
The brand combines my love of colour, Scandinavian folk art and tailoring. It's this relaxed glamour that forms the basis of the collections - a signature series of minimalist cuts elevated with lashings of maximalist colour and prints on luxurious silks.
All the prints are based on old Scandinavian and nordic folk art - I just love the history and the feelings they evoke. I love taking ancient symbols and modernising them with digital prints in vibrant colours. There are so many layers to the designs that I believe my clients subconsciously connect with.
Each piece is crafted to offer versatility, wearability & distinctiveness. It’s about creating the wear anywhere, forever dress - a true sartorial comfort blanket.
Silje wears The Flirt shirt and The Twirl skirt in rust with Sophie Lis Fallen Star hoop earrings, Fallen Moon Necklace and long Compass pendant
2.) How did you come up with the idea for Valle and Vik?
I was 16 when I was scouted to be a model and as a result, was lucky enough to travel the world for work and had a varied social life. In a week my travels could take me from a gala in New York, to an English country wedding via a yacht in The Bahamas. It was incredible!
I was constantly searching for unique wardrobe wonder pieces that could do it all. I wanted something super high quality that would pack well, offer versatility and not date in ultra-flattering cuts with an eye-catching pop of print, colour or originality… the dress that had it all!!
It was then I realized there was a gap in the market for such a dress when I failed to find a designer that consistently offered these qualities for under £500.
That is when I started making dresses for myself and then for my friends. I worked round the clock to do everything from designing the prints, negotiating with manufacturers and mailing out dresses. I had so many setbacks and a lot of humbling lessons, but finally found five cuts I was happy with. I launched my first collection in May 2017.
The dresses were an immediate hit – within two months the first collection was sold out!!
Silje wears The Breezy dress in Bunad Yves blue with Sophie Lis Spike hoops, short diamond surround Love Pendant and long gold chain wrapped twice around the neck for a chocker look.
3.) How did you make the idea of V&V a reality? Did you have textile and manufacturing training or did you teach yourself?
Before modeling I studied Fine Art and History of Art. Throughout my ten year career I always continued to paint, focusing on female nudes, expressing strength, femininity and vulnerability.
As a result, the creative side of having a brand is the part that comes the most naturally to me and has been the best part by far. The business part of having a brand has been and still is a major learning curve.
I design what I want to wear - dream up dream dresses then make the dream a reality. I want to create wearable art.
Everything else – the textile printing and manufacturing has been self-taught and a steep learning curve with many key lessons learnt on the way!!
Prior to launching, I took a Post-Grad in Branding & Brand Management at London School of Business and Finance to give me a small insight and spring board into the world of running a business which was really valuable.
4.) Was there a defining moment when you knew fashion was something which would be a big part of your life?
I have always loved clothes. Growing up I used to tailor my own clothes to make them fit how I wanted. My great grandmother was a seamstress so I guess it was in my blood. My grandmother is one of the most stylish women I know, even now at 80 years old, she is always put together with an effortless relaxed but undeniable elegance. Last summer we went the local beach together when I was back home in Kristiansand and she was rocking a two piece black high waisted 50’s bikini with a pair of lilac sunglasses.
She was the one who got me into vintage when I was a young girl, she always mixed new with old. High waisted looser pants - tucked in tight sweaters with a vintage belt and a statement necklace on top is a go to look for her. Even now she rocks Valle and Vik, layering the shirt dresses over pants and sweaters - always the best dressed!!
The only job I had before modelling was a summer job at a clothing store in my home town. I just loved it, and more often than not, I wasn’t payed any salary due to spending everything I earned on clothes before the month was done!
When I started modelling my obsession with clothes/fashion only grew. I just love how the right dress or outfit can completely change how you feel and act. It’s more than just some external materialistic object - it can really transform you. I love seeing that joy and confidence boost in my clients when they wear Valle and Vik, it really is the biggest reward for me and makes it all worth it.
Silje wears the Cannes Do in Coral with Sophie Lis Fallen Moon Studs, Fallen Moon necklace and long Compass pendant.
5.) Describe your average work day routine.
I get up 7/730am, make a pot of coffee or tea then put them on my tray and enjoy it in bed whilst going over emails etc. By 8.15am I’m in Hyde park getting some fresh air vitamin D and endorphins on my morning run whilst listening to a podcast, a book, music or nothing depending on where my heads at. I get home, showerand sit down at my desk with breakfast.
And that’s where the routine ends. Being the founder of a small but rapidly growing fashion brand, no day is ever the same. I have to wear so many hats and I have so many different people I work with depending on the day. I spend most days with my assistant, and whoever is working with me on a specific project, be it design, market strategies, accounting, production etc. I work best in a team as it forces me to focus on the specific task in front of me. If I work alone I get easily sidetracked as there are so many things that need my attention constantly. If I have to do real focused work alone I have to turn off all notifications on my laptop and phone and just set my alarm for 45 minutes allowing me to concentrate deeply.
If I have to do meetings I try to keep them to the afternoon as I find mornings and early afternoon to be my sacred work time.
My favourite days are design days, spending the day making my dreams a reality can’t be beaten. Receiving new samples is literally like Christmas to me, SO exciting!!
If I’ve been sitting down all day I love to finish the day with a boxing class at BXR or Psycle followed by Pho with my one of my fav girl boss friends. It is literally heavenly nourishment for body, soul and mind.
Silje also wears our Lightning Bolt bracelet with bespoke Coded eternity and Fallen Star ring
6.) What are the best and worst things about being your own girl boss?
The best is the amazing feeling of accomplishment and joy when I reach a goal or when my creations are well received. And when my vision has turned into a tangible thing and it all started with a thought that lead to an action then another then another - and then suddenly here we are! That is an amazing feeling, the feeling that you can do anything you put your mind to.
However, that same thing can also can feel overwhelming and daunting. The fact that it is all down to me and that I have to do everything. I always feel like I’m not doing enough. There is always so much more I could do and should do.
Being your own boss is not for the faint hearted, you have to have self-discipline, patience, humility and be prepared to roll your selves up and work really really hard. You basically become your work and your work becomes you, I think in the beginning at least, it’s hard or impossible to separate the two. You have to be passionate to the point of obsession. So I guess that’s good and bad - you are always working even when you are not you are, and finding a balance is an art form I am yet to master.
So the best part is; you are your own boss, and the worst part is; you are your own boss!!
Silje pictured again in the Cannes Do dress with two Shooting Star diamond earrings worn in the same ear, short gold surround Love pendant and long diamond surround Love pendant on her back.
7.) Describe your personal style and your go to, fail safe favourite items?
I would describe my personal style as pretty simple and laidback but always with a pop of colour or texture or something unexpected. I love mixing up layering, colours and prints. I love statement flats and bags to add contrast to whatever I am wearing.
I never really think of matching things. When I put together an outfit, it’s all about how I feel that day and it kind of just happens. When I go out - in the winter I am most likely in silk pants and a silk top with flats or ankle boots. For summer it is mostly Valle and Vik silk dresses, either alone or layered; like The Long Flirt over some vintage jeans and a silk cami for an effortless but pulled together look. I am quite fuss free in my style - in the sense that I don’t like too many frills and I do not wear a lot of makeup. I like simple elegant cuts in luxurious fabrics. I don’t feel like myself if I am wearing clothes or makeup that is too contrived. Some clothes wear you, but I like my clothes to enhance whatever I feel and whoever I am, or striving to be that day :)
My fail safe fav would be one of my long shirt dresses - The Long Flirt or shirt and silk pants with some Aquazzura flats and a funky bag (at the moment it’s the velvet Gucci Bucket Bag) - some everyday sparkles (diamonds of course) mixed in with an art deco ring and lipliner pillow talk from Charlotte Tilbury and some blusher - et voila!
Silje wears the City Slip in rust together with our Plain Diamond Hoop earrings, Spike Studs, Fallen Star and diamond surround Love pendant necklaces, Lightning Bolt bracelet and bespoke Coded and Fallen Star ring
8.) Who are your style icons? Are there any influencers now you follow avidly?
My Grandmother mentioned above, always the best dressed at any occasion. Also I will always love Audrey Hepburn’s effortless chic style. So classic, so timeless.
9.) How important to you are accessories? What’s your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery?
I love accessories, they complete any look. As stated before I am a complete bag and shoe fiend! I am “mildly” obsessed with Aquazurra shoes, I love all their funky coloured flats and sexy strappy sandals. As for bags, I am not loyal to one brand but whatever has caught my attention. I love to mix it up and I love an unexpected clashing coloured bag.
I also love love love dainty sparkling jewellery - hence why I adore the entire Sophie Lis collection, especially the Fallen Star range. It ticks all the boxes for me, dainty and sparkling with an edge. I love jewellery I can live in that works with everything - basically everything Sophie Lis.
I also love costume jewellery pieces , art deco vintage finds - statement rings and earrings that you can layer with your everyday jewellery and just add a bit of fun to any outfit.
So with jewellery I like it delicate or big - no in-between.
My colours in the next collection are inspired by colours of jewels after a recent trip in Marrakech where I bought some amazing gems in the souks. It feels like treasure hunting so I called the collection the Treasure Trove as it was inspired by emeralds, rubies and sapphire colours.

10.) When you’re not in the office, where can we find you? Click your fingers and be…..
I’d be in Italy Positano on the Amalfi coast with my closest friends and family - eating pasta , sipping on rosé and jumping in the sea - maybe a spot of paddle boarding ( I’m excellent at it … lol … or am I?!!)

Pictured at home, Anoushka wears Sophie Lis Compass pendant on a long chain layered with the Fallen Moon Necklace and diamond Shooting Star earrings
My first meeting with Anoushka was a revelation. I was attending what I thought to be a Female Founders dinner at a friends private house in London. I had as usual, skim read the invitation in a rush, but accepted without a second thought knowing her dinners are always totally fabulous. My host had mentioned something vague about a card reading which I hadn’t really given a second thought to.
However, on entering her house that night, something was different... there was a magic in the air. The flickering candlelight, sweet smell of sage and circle of long stemmed roses, crystals and cards on the floor sparked my senses. Then I saw Anoushka and I was totally transfixed. This jaw droppingly beautiful gypsy goddess quietly kneeling on the edge of her circle. She radiated a calm, positivie energy which immediately entranced me.
There was no dinner that night but instead, a Goddess Circle led by Anoushka. Not usually one for sharing with strangers or speaking openly in public, the evening ahead took me by complete surprise. I won't tell you exactly what goes on at one of her gatherings as I think everyone should experience it for themselves, but I can tell you it had a deeply profound effect on me. I arrived a whirlwind of London life, a mother, a business woman, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend with all the responsibilities and stresses that go with any one of those things. I left empowered, in control and most importantly, as just me.
Anoushka is other worldly. She seems to have the wisdom of generations and the calm serenity of someone deeply in tune with herself and the world around her. Not only does she channel wisdom and power, but manages to charge those around her with this energy.
Empowering women is something at the heart of the Sophie Lis brand, as is symbolism and cosmic energy. As soon as I saw Anoushka I knew she was my next #SophieLisGirl. I am so excited to introduce you to her and hope you too can experience a little piece of her magic…
1.) Tell us about The Goddess Space. How did you come to create it and what exactly do you do.
The Goddess Space creates sacred spaces for Women to gather. Women Circles have been happening for thousands of years and I am reviving them.
A lost, ancient, deeply powerful feminine practice.
I began creating these spaces, as I was beginning my own spiritual journey. I felt a calling to gather with like minded souls, and come together. The idea that I could find a space, where I could connect back to my truth, share without being judged, and feel safe to truly reconnect was all that I was seeking within and as such, I began creating these spaces for Women.
2.) Tell us what we could expect coming to one of your gatherings
My gatherings create a space for you to leave the outside world behind, as you remember that a whole world exists within you.
I guide you back to your own power, wisdom and healing through healing journeying meditations. I believe, you hold all the answers you seek. As such when we gather, we gather to remember all that lies within.
You can also expect to feel an overwhelming sensation of love, connection and community as you gather with Women who are all seeking the same as you.
To be seen, to be heard, to be understood and most importantly to remember their power.
3.) Your house is beautiful. Did you design it yourself and what was your inspiration?
Yes I did design it myself.
Spaces are a huge part of my spiritual practice. As a highly visual and sensitive person, what I see around me, really effects my wellbeing. As such I seek to create sacred, light, fresh spaces, inspired by an earthy, rustic, bohemian style.
I tend to frisk through many second hand markets to find original, handmade pieces to weave into the space; a mixture of provincial french furniture, plants, and rustic vibes.
I have also, after years of being a hoarder, adopted a more minimalist lifestyle. After being inspired by some beautiful teachings, I learnt to understand that all objects hold energy.
As such, I only keep what I truly love in my home, I only seek to see what really brings me pure joy.
4.) Do you find your surroundings have a big impact on your wellbeing / state of mind. What are the most important things to have surrounding you?
As explained above everything holds an energy. Plants and flowers are highly important to me, to really feel life in a space.
Neutral tones are important also for me, nothing too harsh on the eye. I’d rather swim through neutral tones, and feel as if nature is enveloping my space.
5.) How would you describe your personal style?
My style is an eclectic mix of victorian vintage lace merged with bohemian.
After years of squeezing into clothes in order to follow trends, I am now all about comfort. Currently I find pleasure in wearing floaty lace dresses merged with motorbike boots!
6.) Who are your style icons? Do you follow any style influencers on social media?
I’m loving 1970’s prairie style currently, I just bought a Laura Ashely dress from portobello. So currently my inspiration is coming from Julie Christie in the movie “ The Go Between”
7.) What are your go to, fail safe wardrobe items?
In the depths of winter, I’m still trying to wear all my favourites, sometimes this just means layering up my lace dresses with big knits, scarves and cardigans. I can often be found walking down the street dressed in what looks like a giant blanket, but underneath the layers, the treasures can be found.
8.) Symbolism plays a big part in our jewellery as it does in your world. Do you have any favourite symbols that are especially meaningful to you?
Symbolism is the biggest part of my life, I believe the universe communicates with us through symbols as such I’m always looking out for the symbolism of life. The feather, the owl, the sun and moon are very powerful symbols for me. They have been a big part of my life for many years, helping to remind of what I can sometimes forget.
Sophie Lis diamond surround Love Pendant together with Lightning Bolt Studs
9.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why.
I love the compass, I wear this around my neck and have added it to my collection of talisman. The compass reminds me to come back to my centre, anytime I feel lost; for my heart knows the way.
We can often spend so much time looking outside of ourselves for the answers, but the truth, all we need is inside of us.
Pictured above wearing our Love pendant and Fallen Moon hoop earrings
10.) When you’re not in the office or working, where can we find you?
Walking in nature with my dog, at the local farmers markets or traipsing through Portobello market rummaging through vintage stalls!
Here, Anoushka wears our gold surround Love pendant on long chain, diamond surround love pendant on short chain together with our diamond hoops.

Photographed at home in Notting Hill, Caroline wears shorts and jacket both by Stella McCartney, shoes by Castener and Lightning Bolt bracelet by Sophie Lis
This month we celebrate inspirational woman Caroline Templeton. Not only has she carved a highly successful carrier in fashion thanks to her unique creative flair and imagination, she has also spent the past two years co-directing The Breteau Foundation, a charity whose mission is to help educate disadvantaged children living in poverty around the world.
Always incredibly calm and caring, Caroline's impeccable temperament always sees her putting others needs first. She is the not only the most dependable and generous of friends, but also cannot be rivalled at having fun and throwing THE party of a lifetime!
We couldn't be more proud to have her as a Sophie Lis Girl and are lucky enough to take a peak into her beautifully curated private world and discover just how this remarkable lady makes it all work.
1.) Can you give me a brief summary of your career to date and anything outside of this which has been of significant influence in your life?
I am a creative director and brand consultant that specialises in luxury fashion. For the last few years I have also been co-director of the Breteau Foundation, an education foundation that focuses on primary school children in disadvantaged areas across the globe.
Both careers have meant a lot of travelling which I love. Within the fashion world I travelled a lot for photoshoots but I also moved for jobs; to Mumbai to assist with the launch of Vogue India, to London for British Vogue, to Munich for My Theresa and to Paris to L'Officiel.
With the Breteau Foundation, which was set up only five years ago by my husband Sebastien, we have already had 15,000 children go through our programs and have over 60 schools dispersed throughout Columbia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Laos, Myanmar and most recently within the displaced settlement communities in Lebanon. We focus on providing tablets full of curated digital content that are both tailored to the local curriculum and translated into local languages.
I love having the opportunity to travel to these totally remote off the grid places and play with the kids and meet people I would never normally get the chance to meet. Most recently I went to visit schools we helped set up in Syrian refugee settlements in Lebanon. I met the most incredible children and teachers, all of whom have harrowing stories but are so brave and so hungry to get back to school and rebuild their lives.

2.) Has it always been clear that you were destined for a career in fashion and design?
I grew up in the Somerset countryside and was a total tomboy, constantly falling out of trees and off horses - I don't think I ever thought about what I looked like! However, I was always very creative and would spend hours tracing the silhouettes in my grandmother's vintage Vogues, making dresses for my teddies or writing stories. London, Paris and the fashion, art worlds seemed like the most distant and unattainably glamorous of places.

3.) How would you describe your style and how does it change from city to city and work to leisure?
Day to day I am pretty laid back, favouring jeans, shirts and a well cut blazer. I love good tailoring and am quite neutral with my colour palette, especially in Paris where I pretty much only wear black.
Dress by Reformation, bracelets by Sophie Lis
4.) You travel a lot. What are your absolute essential, can't live without pieces which go everywhere with you?
I love my Rick Owens black soft leather jacket, it goes with absolutely everything and it is just so comfortable! For travelling I love t-shirts from James Pearse, jumpers from Vince, pyjamas and eye masks from Olivia Von Halle and a new pair of white converse.
A selection of Caroline's favourite shoes including her bespoke, white Tom Ford wedding shoes, red Aquazzura's, black Jimmy Choo's and powder blue Gianvito Rossi heals. Also pictured are her go-to bags including black Chanel Boy bag, red fur evening bag by Elie Saab and silver and black clutch by Dries Van Noten.
5.) You have the most beautiful daughter Maia. Do you find yourself dressing differently after becoming a mother?
It didn't change too much as I tend to glam up after she has gone to bed, however Im sure I wear fewer skirts in the daytime now as I am constantly rolling around on the floor playing with her!
Caroline wears Fallen Star hoop earrings by Sophie Lis and blue cross back dress by Reformation.
6.) How do you find yourself shopping with so much travelling?
I definitely prefer shopping online for the ease and the choice, Matches.com and Net-a-Porter are great. I also love the luxury clothes rental service Panoply City when I am in Paris, such a clever way to be environmentally friendly and save precious pennies and wardrobe space.

7.) You and your husband have been known to throw some pretty wild and wonderful parties. How do you dream up the concepts and what would you say was the key to their sucess?
We love good friends, good music and good food... (and wine!), so from there the base is always going to be great. We are also extremely lucky to be surrounded by so many enthusiastic dancers and talented creative people so it isn't hard to get the crowd on the floor or to find out new and interesting things to throw into the mix.
For me a good party should be seamless, with guests being effortlessly taken on a journey and yes, I LOVE a party where everyone can really go wild, get creative and live something new or different. Burning Man has been a great liberator for people's creativity internationally and certainly that special vibe is always in the back of my mind if we ever do a themed party, as are the amazing fantatsical worlds created by photographer Tim Walker, and the incredible set designer Shona Heath.
Lightning Bolt diamond necklace and bracelet both by Sophie Lis, skirt and top both Christian Dior. Blue iris painting by Tom Palmer.
8.) What is the most special piece of jewellery in your collection?
I am horrendously sentimental and so I do have a few pieces that are extremely important to me. My late father's signet ring which I wear whenever I need strength. A rose quartz Chaumet necklace that my husband brought me before we were married and which sits close to and helps open the heart chakra. My engagement ring and wedding ring for obvious reasons. A pair of diamond earrings I received as a gift on the birth of our daughter and of course, my Sophie Lis Fallen Star earrings which give me courage, guidance and inspiration.
Top as before by Roksanda, Fallen Star earrings by Sophie Lis
9.) What do you look for when buying jewellery for yourself and others?
I only buy jewellery for friends that has sentimental, spiritual or protective reasons. I have bought the Sophie Lis Fallen Star Earrings for a few friends who admired mine and were also looking for a little bit of guidance at the time.

10.) What is your favourite place in the world, click your fingers and be there?
In bed with my husband, daughter, the weekend papers and a big cup of tea.
Love of your life...

Emma Reeve is flawless.
The perfect example of the current era of girl power.
A natural, celestial beauty with sky high cheekbones, luminous skin with a perfectly executed, voguish style.
Emma is delicate, elegant and feminine but with a powerful, assertive sartorial silhouette which commands authority and radiates strength.
She is impossibly cool, yet simultaneously completely approachable.
Spending five minutes with her you will feel as if you have known her forever. Both a career woman and definite girls girl, she possesses a unique ability to make you feel totally at ease and comfortable from the outset and will have you crying with laughter shortly after!
Emma couldn’t be a better representation of modern day feminism and it is no wonder iconic British fashion house Burberry has her managing UK PR.
We are honoured to have her as a #SophieLisGirl and visited her early on a sunny Saturday morning in London to ask her ten quick questions about her career, life and style and how she manages to achieve the perfect balance.

1.) Can you give me a brief summary of your career to date and anything outside of this which has been of significant influence or had a serious effect on your life? What are your passions and what motivates you?
I grew up in a family of film makers which has greatly influenced my life. I spent a lot of time in Los Angeles as a child and spent every holiday travelling there of wherever else in the world my parents were making a film at the time. I love being around people – my family background influenced this. I am happiest when I am around people young or old and always try to find the best in anyone I meet, no matter what their background or profession.
I am passionate about fabric, tailoring, materials, styles - fashion. I loved a role I had at Emilia Wickstead as she operates a traditional atelier, where I learnt about made to measure and different materials.
I love travelling but only for holidays….the joy in a work trip has long gone! I am motivated by the incredible women in my life and meeting fascinating people in the industry. I adore my chocolate Burmese cat Mr. Chow. He is dog-like and smells like marzipan and helped me through a horrid time I had a couple of years ago when I was home with glandular fever. I speak about him to people far too much and the Burberry office is always updated on his antics on a daily basis.
Emma wears Sophie Lis Fallen Star ring
2.) Tell us about your current job at Burberry. How did you come to be there and what exactly do you do?
I have been in Burberry’s UK PR team for 6 years now - I love British fashion so it feels like a natural fit for me! After graduating, I wanted to be a fashion journalist and gained invaluable experience at Condé Nast and only in my late 20’s did I find my niche in PR. At Burberry, some moments in the year are busier than others (the shows are always huge highlights!) but the beauty of Burberry is that there is always something going on even when it isn’t LFW.

3.) Was there a defining moment when you knew fashion was something which would be a big part of your life?
My mother was a fashion model in the 70’s and I remember as a child being fascinated by some of her black and white model shots for Vogue which I found (without her knowledge) at the back of her closet. She looked fiercely beautiful dressed in power suits and fabulous long dresses. My father, a film director, always paid attention to the costume in his movies. I was totally fascinated by the fabric choices and how costume details were used to portray each character in a certain way. Ultimately, my parents taught me that fashion has the power tell a story and I wanted to be part of that world. I still dream of writing or doing my own fashion podcast or documentary – I am especially interested in the role that sustainability plays in the future of modern luxury so maybe that will be the next story I help to tell!

4.) Describe your average work day routine.
I joke to my husband that I am only able to sleep well if I know I can have a piping hot coffee in the morning – ironically, the prospect of caffeine gets me to sleep! I don’t need much sleep, I usually get up around 7 and am ready in 20 minutes. I lay out my outfits the night before as this helps me save time in the morning but the only problem is if Mr. Chow gets to them first (RIP the tassels on my Burberry scarf). To counteract my coffee addiction, I have a pint of celery juice from Crussh on my way to work – this is the healthiest part of my day and I feel it works miracles for my skin, energy levels and health. I start the day with a press breakfast then it’s head down in the office. On my way home, I might meet a friend in town before I head West to meet my husband. Our go-to dinner spots when it is just the two of us are Clarke’s or Daphne’s- mainly as they’re quiet and delicious and we can talk and catch up.
Sophie Lis gold surround Love Pendant and two Compass pendants
5.) Can you describe an average weekend off duty?
At the weekends I see as many friends as I can, go for walks around Hyde Park and spend time with my mother, or at the moment -driving lessons which I dread – I am getting worse! I love my home comforts and try to turn my phone off on Sundays and spend time with my husband and first born (Mr.Chow). I love a road trip and beg my husband to drive me around London to go to different parts of town. I still feel like a tourist in so many parts of London. There is always somewhere new to explore. The weekends always go too fast, I don’t watch much TV but prioritise bubble baths, walks, friends and feasting in fav places around town.

6.) Who are your style icons? Are there any influencers now you follow avidly?
Charlotte Rampling for her timeless style and Isabella Blow for her stubbornness to conform to the status quo and braveness to be herself. Personal style icons are my mother for her elegance and great friend Amanda Lacey who has the best wardrobe I’ve ever seen. As for my Instagram feed, Bat Gio for her colourful fashion style.
Pink shoes Aquazzurra
7.) How would you describe your personal style and does it differ from weekend off duty dress? What are your go to, fail safe wardrobe items?
I am at my happiest wearing a kaftan as I love resort wear (and holidays in general) but equally feel myself stomping around in my Prada biker boots. I don’t like to look too girlie and if I feel I am not quirky enough I might add a stand-out coat or something whackey. My style evolves every season and I never throw away my clothes as they represent different stages in my life.
7.) How important to you are accessories?
I love Magnetic Midnight head bands and Miu Miu hair accessorises and only use cross body bags otherwise I would leave it on the bus. Most dear to me is the half-moon necklace my father gave my mother to celebrate last day of filming for Half Moon Street and earlier this year, my late grandmother gave me another half-moon necklace for my collection which I also never take off. There is definitely a theme here!

8.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery?
Sophie’s pieces are heaven to me as they represent my favourite silhouettes - stars and moons. There is something empowering to me to wear shapes from the universe and I most love her Compass Pendant – it stands for being able to guide you back to that special person, place or memory which resonates with me as I love exploring new places.
9.) When you’re not in the office, where can we find you?
In a cosy corner at 5 Hertford Street or at home in my dressing gown with Mr. Chow – he follows me everywhere!

1.) Was there a defining moment when you knew fashion was something which would be a big part of your life?
I have always been obsessed with fashion even as a little girl. My mum was the epitome of 80’s glam and I definitely think that rubbed off. She would wear cashmere Maxa Mara outfits with big gold statement earrings and a Chanel bum bag, and had peroxide chin length hair. My dad who owned his own advertising agency in Soho always looked chic and fabulous, and wore linen Armani suits and hand stitched loafers. They were a power couple, looking great came naturally to them and was part of their brand.
My godmother is a fabric buyer for big fashion brands in New York. When I was 15 I begged her to let me come and stay to shadow her at work. My job was to sort tiny swatches of fabric into bags for two weeks...and I loved it!!
When I was a little bit older and at university, I took a turn and decided to follow my dads more business oriented path. I enrolled in a business course at Exeter University and interned every summer at a different advertising agency. I found I really missed fashion, so I hustled with a family friend who worked at Jimmy Choo to get me an interview with the PR department. While my friends all left uni to go and party, I stacking countless boxes of shoes in a back room.
Charlie and her business partner Skye at K&H Comms HQ
I decided from there that I wanted to work in an agency so one lunch time, I 'borrowed' Diary Directory from the Jimmy Choo office - back then it was a huge dusty book with DO NOT TAKE written on the front! I went to the park and called every PR agency I had ever heard the name of... and finally Modus. A guy said to me ‘Girl you are in luck, we’ve got an opening for a junior and are interviewing today, get your ass down here.’ So I feigned illness and ran there. I didn’t get that job but he liked my chutzpah and offered me a job on the beauty team instead. Not my first choice but an ‘in’ nevertheless, so I took it. I loved this job.
At Modus I worked my way up the ladder until I wanted something more business oriented. I stumbled across Mission Media, a growing PR agency with an advertising agency mentality. I interviewed for a job well above my station and my future boss said to me ‘you know I’ve interviewed 10 people today and they have all had terrible shoes, so you’ve got the job’.
The founder was a woman who was fierce and inspirational. I worked my butt off for three years so by the time I was 27, drawing inspiration from my boss who had built her own empire, I decided to do the same.
I forged a partnership with my trusty side kick from the fashion team Skye and off we went. We both gave up big salaries to do this and we didn’t have any clients or money. We had to really work, but before we knew it we had ten fashion brands on board and money in the bank. We took an office, employed our first staff member, bought some desks from ikea and we were in business.

2.) Tell us about about your company K&H Comms.
We wanted K&H to be a hard working agency, to give brands the results of a big agency with a personal touch. We were picky with who we took on and we had a rule that you could only PR it if you would wear it yourself. We had some very early successes, Demellier handbags and Taylor Morris sunglasses being examples. Both had unreal press campaigns and were seen on the likes of Cara and Poppy Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Rita Ora, Sienna Miller, David Gandy, Khloe Kardashian and Harry Styles within launch phase.
Within four years we had grown to eight staff and were literally sitting on top of each other. We had so little room that we would have meetings with big brand owners and they would have to sit in a rail of clothes with a scarf draped over their head. A start up at its best.
Our big break was when we won Kit and Ace, a fashion label started by the owners of LuluLemon. A big brand with a big budget and a serious growth strategy (they opened 90 stores around the world in their first year). It allowed us to move offices, update our entire business offering and one by one, the big brands followed. Our business was in full swing.
Denim rail by DL1961 followed by a selection of clothing by Stone Goya
From here (six years later) we decided to launch beauty. We employed a girl from L’Oreal to come and set up the division and she quickly populated it to eight brands. We then decided to do the same with lifestyle and took someone from Lutchford PR to replicate the model. My husband owns restaurants so that seemed like a natural step.
The final piece of the puzzle was wholesale. We have been asked countless times to do wholesale for brands but have just never had the capacity. When we were finally ready to do it, we looked and looked and looked for the right person to set it up...and finally found an amazing girl from Polly King to run it. This has been the quickest division growth we have ever seen. She is in demand!
We now have 44 brands over all the different divisions and want that to double over the course of the year. 2018 is our big growth year and we won’t quit until the agency is on everyone’s lips.

3.) In the current climate, PR seems to be shifting away from print media towards celebrity endorsements, bloggers and influencers etc. How has your company evolved with these changes.
As a business we have had to really evolve over the years. When Skye and I first started in PR all you needed was a little black book of fashion editors from the top monthlies and you were set. Not the case anymore. We now offer a full 360 service of PR, brand consultancy, digital and social, events, vip and influencer, brand partnerships and collaborations and of course, wholesale.
The culture of the agency has always remained the same, we really just want to make a huge difference to the brands that come to us and sprinkle magic all over them, and that means hiring ambitious, high energy, super connected staff that are going to make that happen. We allow people to shine so if you are amazing at what you do you can shoot up the ranks, you don’t need to stay in a cemented hierarchy only etching up the ladder every few years.
4.) Does your K&H team and showroom reflect the personality and values of the company? What would we expect walking into the office?
All the girls in the office have amazing individual styles. They all wear the brands they represent mixed with their own unique detailing. We work with a lot of Scandinavian brands so the work uniform is often understated and chic, with a dose of high fashion. I am a real flat shoe advocate but the girls all love rocking a heel, whether that be a spiked heel or a block.
Charlie wears Sophie Lis Lightning Bolt collection jewellery with dress by Baum und Pferdgarten and velvet Gucci loafers
5.) Describe your personal work style. What are your fave, couldn't live without fashion staples?
Personally I love a casual look with a manicured edge. I think if your hair is highlighted to perfection and your make up and nails are on point then a casual outfit looks awesome. I love wearing a Baum und Pferdgarten oversized knit or a Zoe Karsson white tee with black skinnies, a Gucci belt and Saint Laurent trainers. In winter I love my Chloe boots.
6.) Congratulations on the birth of your gorgeous baby boy Orlando Grey. Do you feel like your off duty style has changed much becoming a mother?
My style changed a lot when I got pregnant. I basically just lived in activewear and have never been more grateful for a trend ever! My go to brands are Lucas Hugh and Varley. I was gifted some Lucas Hugh leggings from Anjhe the owner when she found out I was pregnant. She had just had a baby and said trust me these are a saviour, and oh was she right. They sucked me in in all the right places and sat right under the bump so were super comfy. Teamed with a cashmere jumper and a flat they looked fab and I wore them to meetings and nights out even when I was massive at the end. They also helped pull my stomach back in after he was born, a really hard working wardrobe staple!!
Charlie wears dress by Baum und Pferdgarten and Miu Miu shoes as before
7.) What is your favourite piece of Sophie Lis jewellery and why?
I love wearing beautiful jewellery to spruce up and outfit and of course Sophie Lis is my fave. I adore delicate drop earrings when I am in need of a bit of instant glamour and I’ve got my eye on a bespoke eternity ring as my belated push present.
Charlie wears Sophie Lis Lightning Bolt bracelet and stacks Sophie Lis Fallen Star rings.
8.) What is your favourite part of the job that comes with owning K&H?
I love my job because I am a people person and as my role at K&H has matured, my job now means meeting people all day every day, whether its a new biz meeting, a client campaign brainstorm or a story pitch to a journo friend. I love the flexibility that comes with owning my own business, I can be full on with back to back meetings one day and be at home with my babe the next. I also feel so lucky to have found a work wife in Skye. She is a business partner of dreams and has made this one hell of an amazing journey. She is extremely hard working and determined but she is also so kind hearted and absolutely hysterical. My mouth hurts from laughing every single day!
Charlie wears Pyjamas and eye mask by Radice Sleep with Sophie Lis lightning bolt necklace and bespoke pendants made to order.
9.) When you’re not in the office, where can we find you?
In my spare time you will mostly find me knocking around Notting Hill, where I live. I love the eclectic nature of the area and it definitely makes having a baby so much fun. We often go to The Electric for brunch or for walks down Portobello Road. When I’ve got a night off Casa Cruz is my fave for cocktails and seriously delicious food...and people watching of course!
10.) Click your fingers and be...
If I could be anywhere right now I’d be on a beach in Ibiza with my hubby and babe. My absolute heaven.

Photographed at Baar and Bass, 336 Kings Road London. Maddie wears Baar and Bass own brand clothes throughout the shoot paired with jewellery by Sophie Lis and high top trainers by Converse.
Maddie Chesterton is the cool kid on the block.
She is tawny, slim, blonde, blue eyed with unwavering confidence and a natural, unforced style.
Maddie is the girl all other girls want to look like with a totally unique eye and perfect, relatable sartorial execution.
However, this style queen is not for hire; she is busy building an empire - Baar and Bass. Already owning two thriving boutiques on London's Kings Road and St Tropez's fashionable Rue Gambetta, Maddie's natural talent for hunting down exclusive, one of a kind treasures and discovering original brands has seen her gain an army of loyal customers who regally frequent her "Aladdin's Cave of Wonder's" to get their latest fix.
Having recently launched Baar and Bass own brand which boasts a ready to wear fashion line together with other totally original and covetable homeware, this siren seems to be unstoppable.
We dropped by her flagship store on the Kings Road to check out the array of Sophie Lis jewellery on sale there, and find out what exactly what makes this girl tick.... and of course do a little bit of shopping ourselves!
1.) Tell us a little bit about the path that lead you to launch your first Baar and Bass boutique.
I started by studying Set Design at St Martins. This lead to a job at the BBC and Channel 4 where I worked for four years. From there, I went on to head up the events team at Purple PR in London where I organised all their in house events for endless high profile clients in fashion, lifestyle and art. This was when I realised I wanted to consolidate design, fashion and art into a boutique where people can come and hang out, express themselves through their creations. We specialise in stocking one off, exclusive brands that are not readily available in London and the UK.
2.) Was there a defining moment when you knew fashion would be a big part of your life?
From a very young age I was always obsessed with collecting little found treasures from all around the world, not wanting anyone else to have them and knowing that one day I would have somewhere to display them all. At Baar and Bass we find fledging brands at the very start of their journey - Rixo, Innika Choo and Kiini to name a few. We give emerging brands a platform in a world where the high street is taking over. We allow ourselves a budget for in season buying which enables us to pull in the newest, must have designers. It has never been a more exciting time for us, keeping our finger on the pulse and being able to be so reactive to current movements around the world. As a generation we are at the forefront of innovation.
3.) Describe Baar and Bass to those who have not yet been lucky enough to visit a boutique.
The style of Baar and Bass is influenced from BIBA back in the 60's/70's. Barbara Hulanicki and her husband Fritz created a cutting edge space where they collaborated with brands designing all new things from fashion to food. The Rolling Stones used to hang out there and it became a place where you would come, have a drink, listen to music and try on many of the cool new pieces BIBA had to offer in a relaxed, non sterile environment.
Our Baar and Bass walls are adorned with murals from artist Tony Common who famously paints the front of the Chelsea Arts Club and who also painted a few of BIBA's walls back in the day. Our rails are filled with the latest designs and our shelves with vintage, collectors items found by myself.
I am incredibly excited to say that we are about to launch an exclusive collection in collaboration with Barbara herself... so keep your eyes peeled!
I want everyone to feel like they can have a slice of Baar and Bass and leave with something, no matter how big or small. It isn't just a shop; we have created a place where people can come and always know they will have a friend. It is an old world shopping experience and one which I am safe in saying is hard to find these days.
4.) Describe your personal style. Do you think the shop is an extension of that style?
I don't buy into trends and don't let trends dictate my style. I adore every piece I buy and I look after them with great care. I have many different styles and dress for how I am feeling that day. Confidence comes from within and lets you own an outfit.
5.) You recently launched Baar and Bass own brand. Tell us about your vision behind it.
We are creating the pieces you can't find anywhere else. For example, we don't just stick a printed sticker on the front of a glass candle and sell it for £40 and call it a creation. We have our glass hand blown in Mexico so every piece is unique. We then ship them back to the UK and have them filled with the highest quality ingredients we have selected with incredible scents which contain absolutely no nasties to ensure maximum usage and burn quality. These are then tested up to ten times before being beautifully packaged in our own design boxes ready for sale. A lot of time and energy goes into every piece of Baar and Bass own brand and we do our utmost to support small businesses like ourselves in the making.
6.) What is your favourite part of the job that comes with owning the shop?
Discovering brands and witnessing them developing all the way from samples to being displayed in store. I can then really sell these pieces with passion as I am invested into their story. When I sell to my customers I am always truthful and really listen to what they are looking for and how they would like to feel. Seeing them walk away from Baar and Bass with an outfit that makes them feel confident, sexy and everything that a woman should feel... that is my favourite part of the job.
7.) We know you have launched a second store in the uber glam St Tropez. How would you describe the local style and how do the collections you carry reflect that?
Our second store in Saint Tropez is different in that we have a lot of customers from all over the world coming in everyday, but similar in that it has gone down well with the locals. We have built up strong relationships with many of our customers out there who are desperate to see what we have for them next. It's not easy opening your own business abroad and especially being the only English store out there but the Tropizians trust us now and they love that we are a boutique selling pieces they cannot buy anywhere else. They have said that it reminds them of the days of Bardot and how great shopping used to be back then. We open our third store in May at Indie Beach on the infamous Pampelonne Beach. Its going to be incredible and I can not wait to share it with you!!
8.) Why do you carry Sophie Lis Jewellery and what is your favourite piece?
Sophie Lis Jewellery are timeless pieces and for us, they are the perfect gift for that someone special no matter what age. One of our customers said that the Fallen Star necklace reminds them of David Bowie, I like that. I think it has got a real edge and for that reason, it is my favourite piece.
9.) What's your vision for Baar and Bass's future? Where will you be in five / ten years?
The future of Baar and Bass is endless. I want to grow the brand into so many different things. How my life will naturally develop with my own family one day, I will bring Baar and Bass with me... just wait and see!
10.) We can tell you are a complete workaholic and it must be difficult to switch off... but, given the chance, where would we find you?
Switching off... I remember those days!! I love being on the beach. I used to love travelling far far away to remote places but over the last couple of years I have just adored travelling in Europe. There is so much of it I haven't explored yet. Switching off for me would be Italy or France in the countryside or on the beach... incredible food and wine and surrounded by my best friends and family.
Love of your life?
Who knows, I haven't found him yet....

Photographed at home in Kensington, Bettina wears skirt and top by Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and trainers by Nike
There is no hiding from the fact Bettina Looney is an absolute smoke show. Like a breath of fresh air, Bettina has swept into the fashion world, igniting the passion of designers and inspiring a new generation of Instagram followers. No longer interested in an army of emaciated models, the modern woman wants to see both affordable and aspirational clothes on someone they can relate to. With killer curves, style to die for, boundless energy and a smile to melt hearts, Bettina is both the girl next door and your wildest fantasy.
Born and raised in the USA, Bettina's stunning looks come from a cultural melting pot of American, Cuban and Italian roots. However, she was not always destined to be fashion's poster girl as growing up, her unique style and quirky sartorial choices tending to raise eyebrows rather than gaining approval.
We met gorgeous Bettina for a coffee at her home in Kensington, London to discover the story behind fashion's best dressed personal shopper and Instagram's newest influencer, how she got to where she is now and just what it is that makes her tick...
Bettina wears Sophie Lis Fallen Star Earrings and Fallen Moon Necklace
1.) Has it always been clear to you that you were destined for a career in Fashion?
If you knew me as a little girl, it actually doesn't make sense how I am in fashion. I used to kick and scream when my Mom wanted to take me to the shops, I absolutely hated it, who knew it would eventually end up being my career - haha!! I always experimented with my style and never really stuck to one thing until I left university of Florida.
Towards the end of my university years, I started to appreciate fashion more and created inspiration boards on Pinterest. I used to sit doing it for hours every day when the platform first launched, although I recently archived about 99% of it as clearly I didn't know what I was doing! If there was a skirt or top I liked on someone, I found it on Pinterest (this was before most of the links were attached to the image), I would search and search for hours until I found the piece so I could buy it. I remember thinking to myself that it would be fun to have a job doing the same thing working for Pinterest, adding the links to the images for girls like me to buy.
When I moved to London I began woking for a personal shopping company and doing just that. Clients would come into the office with their requests - photographs from magazines or descriptions of items they had seen on the street and I wouldn't stop searching until I found them, sometimes from five seasons ago.
My style is a bit funky and I am not afraid to wear something bold and fun. Moving to London was the best thing I ever did as people started appreciating my individual style and vision. I began getting noticed and invited to events, and getting the opportunity to work with more and more brands.
Bettina wears Sophie Lis Fallen Star Bracelet, Cartier Love Band and watch by Rolex
2.) How did you come to be an influencer?
I began working with a fashion concierge company when I moved to London three and a half years ago. There were only eight people there at the time and they needed someone to go into the shops and create stylised looks to showcase on social media in order to generate sales. At first I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but the looks I created turned into the pieces which were selling. This was when I realised how much people engaged when I posted complete looks which were created with my personal creative style and the twists I added gave people inspiration. I started playing around on my personal Instagram by posting outfits I was wearing during holidays and it all kicked off from there. Brands started reaching out for collaborations and I adored seeing the pieces and items I styled and promoted were appreciated and purchased by my clients.
3.) How do you describe your style and how do you choose what to wear each day?
I am a very visual person, always liking to feel comfortable in what I wear but at the same time, liking to stand out. Whether this means adding a cool, funky jacket, big chunky gold earrings, a shoe that pops or a trendy bag with a bit of colour. I don't mind being a little "OTT", I'll always have a statement piece, one thing that stands out more than the rest.
My evening wardrobe is where I tend to shine, literally and physically. Going out at night is an excuse to dress up and wear everything that you wouldn't really wear during the day which is a hundred times more fun! If I could sum up what I love and am currently inspired by in one word, it would be ATTICO. Girly, glitzy, sexy and always different from the rest.

4.) Who are your style icons and who / what are you most influenced by when it comes to wardrobe choices?
I don't really have one person that I look up to in fashion. I am inspired by different things in each outfit / person that I see and use it as inspo. Everyone's vision is different and I appreciate that and like to combine things that I see to make it my own.
5.) What are your absolute favourite, couldn't live without, go to wardrobe staples?
COMFY SHOES, especially in London. I have more trainers than anything else in my wardrobe as I need them for my feet to be able to survive in this city. Also, my Celine scrappy white sandals which may as well have been painted onto my feet this summer as I never took them off. I am still trying to squeeze in a few more wears even though my toes are constantly numb from the freezing weather! These shoes have by far been my favourite ever purchase I love them so much. I need to find a sock that has just one slot for my big toe so I can wear them during the winter!!
White sandals from Celine
6.) You travel a lot. What are your top travel tips and essentials to be comfortable and stay fresh?
I am so OCD!!! I plan all my outfits before a trip so I don't have to think about them when I get to wherever I am going. I also hang them up together upon arrival so I can just wake up I don't have to think about getting dressed.
I carry Evian or rose water facial spray with me wherever I go. I spray it all day long and it keeps me feeling refreshed and clean. Paw paw cream from Australia I literally cannot live without. I put it in my carryon every time I travel and re-apply it all day as it feels so good on your lips and makes them so soft!
Mini backpack Louis Vuitton, brown cross shoulder bag by Loewe
7.) Being at the forefront of the fashion industry with access to all the latest trends and launches, you must have unlimited wardrobe choices at your fingertips. Do you find it difficult to draw the line between featuring editorial and advertorial items on your instagram?
At this point I really try to accept things and buy things that are truly my style which can be used for both. There is no point having them separated, if you put pieces together in the right way that makes it feel like you, then you cannot go wrong.
8.) What is the most special piece of jewellery in you collection and why?
The most special piece I have in my jewellery collection is a ring that has a solid gold band with a diamond on the top. Its very simple, but meaningful to me. When I moved to London in April 2014, my Mom handed this piece to me to remember her by every time I wear it. The diamond is from my first diamond earring as a little girl and my Mom had it made into a ring for me to be able to have forever. It is a sentimental piece and means a lot to both of us, especially now that I am far away from my parents living in a different country.
Sequin outfit by Jiri Kalfar, jewellery by Sophie Lis
9.)What do you look for when buying jewellery for yourself and for others?
Anything gold and chunky tends to catch my eye!! When it comes to fine jewellery, I always try to invest in something timeless so I can hand it down to my daughter (hopefully) and grandchildren one day.
I love Sophie Lis jewellery because the pieces are so easy to wear everyday. My favourite is the Fallen Star necklace, I wear mine all the time.
I love vintage finds, costume or fine, these are always my favourite as they have a bit of history and a story that comes along with them. Also, no one else tends to have the same and I love having things which are a little different.
Peach Me t-shirt by Ganni, Fallen Star Ring by Sophie Lis, solitaire diamond ring as mentioned in article, Fallen Moon Necklace by Sophie Lis, Purple Earrings Cartier
10.) What do you do as soon as you arrive in London? Favourite shops / designers / hangouts?
Chiltern, Shop at the Bluebird, Juice Baby is my jammm. I also generally have to go to Mount Street, Bond Street, Harrods etc to see what pieces have come into stock.
Love of your life.......
My boyfriend Carlos, he is my all. We have built a life we always wanted by doing it together and our careers have also grown in the same way. That's what a life partner is all about and I never thought that was a possibility until I met him. I couldn't imagine life without him! We were both born in Miami, went to the same university and had the same friends, yet I met him in London. Life has a funny way of working out... :)

Photographed at home in Ladbroke Grove, Kelly wears jumper by Ganni and shoes by Zara.
Kelly Eastwood is the brains and beauty behind leading fashion and lifestyle blog, The London Chatter. As one of the original first generation British bloggers, Kelly has been instrumental in launching the now, hugely commercial billion dollar fashion blogging industry.
It is undeniable how technology has changed the landscape of fashion forever, seeing fading elitism of the 'untouchable editors' in favour of an approachable perspective on current trends. Bloggers have become a trusted and unbiased source of style, making designer and high street looks accessible to everyday people. Fashion week now sees influencers with large social media followings taking the most coveted front row seats ahead of top buyers and editors as the digital tide shifts towards democracy.
Growing up in East Africa just outside Kenya's capital Nairobi, Kelly spent an idyllic and carefree childhood in a colourful, vibrant world surrounded by nature and animals. This influence is part of Kelly's DNA, together with her light hearted, jovial character - very much reflected in her unique, eclectic and playful fashion style.
However, it is not only her infectious, quick witted personality and dynamic style which sets Kelly apart from the crowd but the fact she has a strong conscience, consistently using her platform of influence to draw urgent attention to important conservation causes, with the illegal African wildlife trade especially close to her heart.
We couldn't be more excited to have Kelly as our September #SophieLisGirl and take a look behind the scenes into her glamorous, kaleidoscopic life and find out how she had the foresight to become a blogger, how she got to where is now, and how she stays true to herself and ahead of the competition.
1.) Has it always been clear that you were destined for a career in Fashion?
Ha, certainly not! I was all about leg warmers and Hakuna Matata t-shirts growning up and was teased quite mercilessly at my English boarding school for wearing dusty old safari boots. I remember begging my father to take me to Ken Market when he was visiting one time from Kenya so I could get some denim flares in order to fit in a little better. My latter day university style wasn't much better (I remember a lot of fake tan and pink cowgirl boots...)! It wasn't until I was living in London working as an actress with a part time job at a boutique in Notting hill that I had a clue or even a slight interest in fashion.
Kelly wears Fallen Star bracelet and ring by Sophie Lis
2.) We know you were one of the first generation London fashion bloggers, blogging almost before blogging was even "a thing" or "the thing" as it is today. How did you decide upon this career path and how did you go about launching yourself?
I started my blog as a creative outlet to keep busy in between my acting jobs. I never knew it would develop into anything of interest, let alone a career and think I was just pretty lucky with the timing of it all.
Instagram has definitely been a game changer for everyone, and has made blogging appear very glamorous, so it's easy for outsiders to overlook all the previous years of commitment bloggers showed, especially at a time where there was no proven earning potential and quite a lot of snobbery directed towards it.
There was no one to copy or learn from, so there was just a lot of trial and error with the technical side of things. The pace of blogging is now incredibly fast and the competition steep, so I think we all now feel a lot more pressure these days, but I always remain true to myself rather than be influenced by what others are doing.

3.) How would you describe your style? Are you always perfectly polished or could we catch you on a bad day?
I certainly wouldn't describe myself as perfectly polished, as I spend most of my days dressed as a teenage boy in jeans, trainers and a top knot. I love print clashes, bright colours and there's usually a touch of glitter or leopard print somewhere. I also definitely have bad days, but luckily I work from home a lot so the general public are usually spared from that particular source of fright!
4.) What are your go-to wardrobe staples and absolute favourite, couldn't live without pieces?
As I mentioned I am a real jeans girl and I love River Island Amelie skinnies and Donna Ida Sadie dungarees which I pair with Chinti and Parker cashmere or Bella Freud tops. I have a rainbow collection of Superga trainers and I also love Rogue Matilda for quirky brogues. If Im dressing up, its Matthew Williamson with Jimmy Choo heels all the way. My current 'can't live without' items would be my Meli Melo Santina mini bucket bag (which has not left my side since Copenhagen fashion week) and my Bally Janelle loafers.
Kelly wears Fallen Star necklaces by Sophie Lis and pink jacket by Smythe. Eiffel tower light is from Graham and Green, lamp shade by Notting hill based Matilda Goad together with Kelly's favorite Feu de Beaumont candles.
5.) Being a blogger you travel a lot. Can you give us your top tips for staying fresh and stylish whilst in the air?
I never fly without my Sisley express flower gel mask which I apply on the plane or my mini Caudalie beauty elixir which I spray when I land to freshen me up. I try and drink a lot of water whist on board and usually will add rehydration salts from Boots if flying long haul. I also never travel without my slate grey Lois Avery shawl which I make sure to spritz with one of my favourite scents (Chloe or Jo Wood's organic Amka) before leaving the house.

6.) Do you have favourite everyday go-to jewellery and if so, is it symbolic or sentimental or do you base your choices on current trends?
I'm really particular with my jewellery and become rather loyal to certain, classic rather than faddy pieces. I wear my three gold Masai-bead inspired Satao bracelet I designed with Auree Jewellery everyday. Not only do I love it but 100% of the profits from the collection go directly towards elephant conservation across Africa. I also wear my rose gold signet ring everyday which was designed by Rebus to incorporate both my father and mother's family crests.
Sophie Lis Fallen Moon necklace and Fallen Star ring pictured with Kelly favourite tribal band bracelet, and favourite Nars x Charlotte Gainsbourg "Promise" lip gloss and Bruised Plum Tom Ford lipstick.
7.) What is the most special piece of jewellery in your collection and why?
My childhood best friend passed away when I was 18 and my most treasured piece of jewellery, let alone favourite possession, is a Victorian pearl and sapphire locket given to me by her mother on my 21st birthday. It still has the flowers she pressed as a child safely hidden inside it.
What is your favourite piece in the Sophie Lis collection?
I love my Fallen Star necklace. The North star has always been a symbol of guidance and direction, so even though it is beyond pretty, I feel an undeniable and reassuring strength when wearing it.

8.) Having access to all the latest trends and launches, you must have unlimited wardrobe choices at your fingertips. Can you tell us a bit about how you shop?
I do get to borrow some amazing pieces for events and shoots, and feel very lucky for that, rather than accumulating so much stuff and never having time or the occasion to wear it again. This summer I borrowed some gorgeous dresses from Temperley London and over Copenhagen Fashion Week I got dressed in lots of Danish brands (By Marlene Birger, Stine, Goya and Baum und Pferdgarten) which was a dream. That said, my wardrobe does get regularly cleansed due to its ever increasing volume... I have a filthy shoe habit, and browsing Zara and Net-a-Porter on my phone late a night if I can't sleep can prove pretty dangerous!

9.) In an age where bloggers carry such significance to brands and can have a huge impact on sales, do you find it difficult to draw the line between featuring editorial items of passion and advertorial content on your blog?
It can be hard to turn down money offered sometimes, especially when there are mortgages to pay and aforementioned filthy shoe habits to fund, but your popularity as a blogger relies on your authenticity. People will be following you because they like your style and taste, so if you start wearing and posting things you don't really love or back, its a huge turn off to your audience. You have to find the right balance.

10.) Finally, when you are not out and about being your most fabulous most fashionable self, where can we find you?
Watching Netflix in a bubble bath... although perhaps don't come looking!!
Love of your life?
Africa. Chanel. Ryan Gosling. Its hard to choose...

Sophie Paxton couldn't be further from a fashion cliché. Her journey to success is one of true passion, grit and determination and undeniable inspiration. Having identified her calling in fashion at an early age, Sophie worked tirelessly to break into the industry, climbing her way up the ladder to success whilst also fighting a life threatening illness and battle for her health along the way.
Sophie is a fashion editor and stylist and currently holds the title of Fashion Merchandise Editor at ES Magazine. Here she gives us an exclusive insight inside her world and tells us just how she got to where she is and overcame her illness, all whilst managing to remain endlessly positive and infectiously happy.
We could not be prouder to have her as a Sophie Lis Girl and had such a fun afternoon taking a peak behind the scenes into her beautiful apartment, learning some fabulous styling, shopping and home decor tips.

1.) Can you give me a brief summary of your career to date and anything outside of this which has been of significant influence in your life?
I joined college after leaving school and enrolled on a BTEC Fashion Design course. It all went from there! The revelation of writing an essay about something I am actually passionate about was ground breaking. I then went to The Arts Institute in Bournemouth where I studied for my degree and specialised in Styling. After graduating I did what the rest of the industry does and intern for what felt like forever! I eventually started at ES Magazine as an intern and where I still work today.
Unfortunately, when I was still a Fashion Assistant at the age of 25, I was on holiday in Thailand where I sufferered a seizure right at the end of my trip. After spending a night in intensive care in a hospital in Bangkok, I was told I had an AVM (Arterio Venus Malformation) in my brain and I had to return to the UK for treatment - either surgery or radiotherapy.
Four days before I was meant to meet the surgeon to discuss the options I had a huge stroke. I was rushed to hospital where they didn't think there was any chance I would survive and prepared my family for the worst, a high chance of death or the possibility of a constant vegetable state if I were to survive. I was rescued by my amazing surgeon and luckily they removed the clot and the AVM with brain surgery. I woke after being in a coma for four days to find I was completely paralysed on the left side and unable to do anything.
It took six months of living in hospital to learn to eat, dress and go to the bathroom. I Ieft that June walking out, unaided with just a stick. My recovery is still an ongoing process and even now I can't use my left arm but I am still improving and I never let it stop me. I don't know many people that haven't experienced some sort of adversity and the way I see it is that everyone is born with a certain amount of bad luck. Some people stub their toe everyday and some people get their bad luck in big chunks. I just so happened to get mine all when I was 25! The main this is that anything is possible. People flew rockets into space, humans built pyramids... anything is possible! There is never an excuse and if you want something badly enough you have to make it happen.

2.) Has it always been clear to your that you were destined for a career in fashion?
My Mum wouldn't let me wear heals to primary school when everyone else did... BIG MISTAKE - this lead to the the biggest obsession of my life! However she did go to huge lengths to help me dress up as my favourite childhood icons such as Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I'm not sure how many white net curtains we went through! My Mum, nanny and I have always been into clothes and used to talk at great lengths about them. They were also both very nifty on sewing machines which helped alot.
3.) How would you describe your style and does it change from work to leisure?
I would say its pretty simple and not overly feminine. I like strong, clean silhouettes and lots of monochrome, I am obsessed with stripes. If I am going out I like to wear something fairly oversized but with a nice detail that shows off one part of the body like shoulders or back rather than legs or chest. I think those are the most beautiful parts of a woman. To be honest, with any outfit, day or night my favourite accessory is a strong earring - I have so many piercings I need something to fill them!

4.) What are your absolute favourite, couldn't live without, go-to wardrobe staples?
Go to essentials would be my cropped raw edge Levi jeans, wide ribbed trouser from H&M, oversized black silk Topshop shirt and my simple black leather Finery jacket.
5.) Being at the forefront of the fashion industry with access to all the latest trends and launches, how do you decide what to buy and what to resist? Do you shop mainly online, in store or directly from the designers? Has your career changed your shopping habits?
To be totally honest I don't buy a lot of designer clothes, I tend to save my big purchases for shoes and bags. The reason for this is that I find I go through so many clothes and that the turnaround is so fast that I would rather accessorise my current outfits with top quality, timeless designer accessories instead. I do need to start investing in my wardrobe more but that would mean I would need to do all the washing as I couldn't trust my husband not to shrink things - another reason why I don't buy too many expensive clothes!
Dress is one of a kind, runway exclusive by Dolce & Gabbana worn by Sophie at one of the celebrations surrounding her wedding in Venice. Everyday favourite bags by Mulberry and Celine.
6.) What is the most special piece of jewellery in your collection and why? Is there significance or symbolism behind it?
I actually have five pieces which are hugely significant to me. A rose quartz heart on a chain that my godmother gave me when I was about 8 or 9 which I absolutely cherish. It is so simple but unbelievably beautiful. I don't wear it that often as I often choose earrings over necklaces but I love it. The second is a charm bracelet that my grand parents bought me when I was 21 which I added to for about six years and is now too heavy to wear! It is completely impractical as it catches on everything but holds so many memories as I bought charms from nearly ever country I went to at the time. I also have a big amber ring that my Dad had made for my 21st birthday which has bugs inside it which reminds me of my favourite film Jurassic Park. My Dad and I share a mutual love of jewellery and I think he has more rings than I do! Fourth is a ring made up of both my parents wedding rings - they divorced but decided to split the gold between me and my two brothers. Finally the fifth is a dragon head that I bought in Thailand a few hours before I fell ill. The original was made of nickel and started to go brown. My Dad wears it now but had it cast in silver for me and I love it. Some of my family think its a bad omen and I shouldn't wear it but it reminds me of what happened to me and that I might not be alive today or worse.
7.) What do you look for when buying jewellery for yourself and others?
As you can tell by my collection of jewellery, I am hugely sentimental about it and so when I select, I treat it in the same way. I take a lot of time to get to know people and though to some, jewellery is just an accessory, I know to others it can mean much more. I take my hat off to anyone who proposes with a ring, that is not an easy thing to choose at all! My husband nailed it with mine but I am not sure I could do the same for anyone else!
- What is your favourite symbol and do you have a good luck charm?
I really like the star and moon which tie in with my love for Sophie Lis jewellery. When I was little, there was a book my Mum read to me called half a moon and one whole star which I absolutely adored. I am also a huge cat fan so also like the outline of a cat's head.
Top left is a framed gift from friends. Top right photo of Sophie and her husband in Cinque Terre, Italy. Black and white images below of the couple on their wedding day.
8.) Describe your perfect night in London.
I think dinner with friends with lots of red wine outside in the sun. But then - a random unplanned drunken night out can lead you to the most random places which is always such fun. Who doesn't enjoy a drunken rickshaw ride through the streets of London?!
9.) Most likely to be found outside the office...
Hunting for home interiors. My husband hates it when I mention a casual stroll in Chiswick as he knows we will end up in vintage furniture shops and carrying something home. Once he had to carry a pearl inlay side table through the airport in Egypt because I found it for £30 and couldn't resist... poor guy! He says its an obsession, I say its a hobby!!
Wall photos of Sophie and her husband with friends together with two paintings they bought in Vietnam. Tulips where a gift from Sophie's Swedish nanny pictured with a frame of kisses from Sophie's hen. Words from Fields of Gold, Sophie and her father's favourite song.
10.) Love of your life?
My husband Torban. We have been together since I was 16 and no one makes me laugh as much as him. Our second love is our British Blue cat Pojke who most people think is evil but I think is just a bit misunderstood. Anyone with his good looks would be a little bit aloof!
Eiffel Tower was one of the table decorations which Sophie made for her wedding. Each table was a different place the couple had visited. Mother of peal coffee table is the one mentioned from Egypt which Sophie made Torban carry home.

This month we are lucky enough to take a look inside the private world of phenomenally inspirational woman Arabella Burwell. Not only is she an incredible business woman but she is an unstoppable sportswoman who regularly takes on some of the World's toughest challenges to raise money for charity.
Arabella is a new partner at corporate finance firm, Hannam & Partners, and is the first woman to be made partner at the company. She works between London and South Africa but now calls Cape Town home and is building a new life there with her husband Tom. Did I mention she finished a half Iron Man in Durban last week too...?!
Find out how this incredible lady fits it all in whilst remaining a steadfast friend, superbly supportive sister to eight siblings and all whilst remaining the most naturally stylish woman in South Africa!
Bantry Bay, Cape Town
Can you tell me a little about your back ground and how you found yourself working where you are now?
I left Cambridge in 2006. Not many people would choose a career in finance with an anthropology degree, but a natural interest in emerging markets has certainly shaped the direction I’ve taken within the industry. I joined Barclays Capital’s graduate scheme which gave me a fantastic grounding teaching me basics I still go back to today. Two years later, I moved to a Canadian investment bank and worked as a research analyst and then a sector specialist speaking to UK based fund managers. After 5 years, I joined a newly formed firm called Hannam & Partners, primarily to help build out their capital raising offering. I have pretty amazing colleagues who have lived through almost every possible type of market. They have not only supported me moving to South Africa but 2 months ago also promoted me to Partner.
Alongside this outstanding career, you are an unstoppable sportswoman. What charity events have you taken part in?
In 2009 I completed the “3 Peaks Challenge” with 4 unstoppable girlfriends, we raised what felt like a huge sum of money for Hospice in the Weald – the hospice in Pembury that cared for my late father. I’ve run the London Marathon twice for this charity, once dressed as a bumble-bee! I was very proud to be part of the first Strive effort in 2014, an endurance event started by my brother in law Sam Branson and his cousin Noah Devreux which raises money for the Big Change Charitable Trust. I joined them at the start of a 30 day journey, completing 3 marathons in 3 days. I was supposed to take part again in 2016 but broke my foot two weeks before and had to pull out, to make up for it I’m going to take on my first half-iron man in mid-June in Durban.

When did you to move to Cape Town?
Tom (my husband) and I first tentatively rented a house in Cape Town at the end of January 2016. Since then we’ve both got stuck into work and life here, It’s an incredible place to live with jaw-dropping scenery and full of brave, intelligent and welcoming people. The summer months in Cape Town are astonishing but I’m also now enjoying a quieter, colder winter.

What do you like most about the city and living there?
I’m an outdoors person. Being able to jump on my bike on a Sunday morning and head out with mountains on one side and the sea on the other is something I had never had easy access to and now I don’t know how I’d live without it. Waking up here at the weekend makes me very happy. I have also become addicted to swimming in the (very cold) sea. I’m just getting into Yoga here too, the studios in Cape Town are excellent.
Ali hiking up Table Top Mountain with a friend.
Cape Town is a foodie heaven, there are so many different types of restaurants and we are constantly discovering new places. The restaurant scene is vibrant and new ones are opening all the time. I love having lunch at the Italian locanda Villa 47 in the middle of town. Capetonians are crazy about food and borderline obsessed with wine – not surprising since there are so many incredible wine farms right on their doorstep. My favourite is Boschendal in Franschoek, you sit looking out over the most beautiful vegetable garden and up at the mountains while eating the most stunning food.

Describe your perfect night in Cape Town
In the summer – sundowners at La Parada del Mar on Camps Bay, followed by dinner at The Pot Luck Club at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock – they do the BEST grapefruit margaritas and the tapas inspired menu is fun and delicious.
How would you describe your style and how has it changed since moving?
I’m a laid back weekender and live in black jeans or denim shorts and converse. My work week wardrobe is simple and classic. The biggest change from London to Cape Town is a lot more colour, I just can’t help being attracted to bright things when the sun is out. My shopping habits have changed a lot over the last few years after I watched a documentary called The True Cost, which highlighted the huge social and environmental issues caused by fast-fashion culture. Now I buy fewer clothes and I am happier to spend more money on clothes that I love and I will wear again and again.

Can’t live without London wardrobe staples VS can’t live without Cape Town wardrobe staples?
In Cape Town, I can’t leave the house without my favourite Ray Bans and I live in my converse come rain or shine. There are only two necklaces that I wear constantly (and almost ever!) – one was given to me by my little sister 3 years ago and the other is your moon. London staples include a pair of faux-leather Kooples jeans and Ash trainers – I actually wore these both on my first date with Tom in January 2012!
Who is your most inspirational figure?
This may sound silly, but my biggest inspiration are my closest friends. They are my role models, managing to navigate stressful jobs, busy lives and motherhood while being constantly creative, imaginative and conscientious and always always making time for their friends. Having moved away, I appreciate them more than ever.

What do you look for when buying jewellery for yourself or others?
I like the jewellery I wear to mean something. I have a huge respect for precious metals and gemstones having seen first-hand how difficult they are to produce and I believe they should be treasured. Aside from fun costume pieces for festivals, I don’t own much jewellery…it has to be very special to stick. My favourite piece in the Sophie Lis collection is the Fallen Moon Necklace, I wear it every day.
What is your lucky charm?
I don’t have one. Usually I get by with a lot of determination.
Love of your life...
My husband, Tom
